Marine Research & Conservation at NYU Abu Dhabi
The Marine Biology lab at NYU Abu Dhabi uses the Arabian Gulf as a natural laboratory to study coral reef ecology in extreme environments and to understand how these may serve as a model for the possible impacts of future climate change on reefs elsewhere. Current research explores how reef fauna in the Arabian Gulf are able to cope with extreme temperatures using a suite of genomic, molecular, physiological and ecological approaches.

Turtle Saadiyat :
Marine biologist Jacob Johansen descending to the reef with his survey gear.
Saadiyat island in Abu Dhabi is home to one of Abu Dhabi’s coral reef system that supports a high biodiversity of species. This Hawksbill turtle is resting in between corals at Saadiyat reef.
Monitoring the coral reef ecosystem is vital to understand and document the changes that occur in an extreme environment.

Aquatic Conservation
What is the meaning of aquatic conservation? Marine Resources Conservation Aquatic marine resource conservation refers to the preservation of ecosystems in our oceans, seas, and coastal waterways. Marine ecosystems, such as estuaries and coral reefs, are among the largest of our aquatic ecosystems
Sanjana
How is an aquatic ecosystems is conserved?Regulatory measures must be taken on wastewater discharge in the water body to conserve biological diversity. Increasing public awareness is one of the most important ways to conserve aquatic biodiversity. This can be accomplished through educational programs, incentive programs, and volunteer monitoring programs.

Aquatic Conservation in India
India boasts a rich and diverse aquatic landscape, with rivers, lakes, wetlands, mangroves and much more. Unfortunately, there are many challenges faced like pollution, habitat loss and climate change. There are many projects taken up by the government to stop these problems. Some are MPA India and NPCAE (National Plan for Aquatic Ecosystems). There is a law called The Wildlife Protection Act of India 1972 which provides legal protection to many of the aquatic animals in India. There are total of 31 major Marine Protected Areas in India covering coastal areas that have been notified under Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
Aquatic Conservation in India
There have been many success stories such as restoration of lakes, rivers and ponds which shows the effects of India's targeted aquatic conservation efforts and the government has also increased awareness of the public on this topic. The future of aquatic conservation of India lies in the collaborative efforts of government,NGOs (non-government organizations), other communities and individuals. Technology which is becoming more and more advanced can also help in the aquatic conservation in India.
