Reasons for CLIL: Language is acquired most successfully when learned in meaningful situations Content-based language teaching provides functional basis for language teaching

My observation tool: What teachers do for the development of students' communication

2. Methods & results

Observation tool sections:

• Teacher facilitates exposure to input
• Teacher facilitates tasks that involve learners in grappling meaning
• Teacher employs activities aimed at awareness-raising of language forms
• Teacher promotes output production
• Teacher facilitates the use of strategies

Comparison

Adaptations:

1. Including error correction
2. Including use of technologies
3. Including attention to diverse learners' needs
4. Including dropdown messages with more specific information

3. Conclusion:

• Lessons: Improve learners' motivation & encourage high-order thinking skills
• Teachers: Room for improvement in their English level & in error correction
• Observation tool: Difficult to design one from scratch but helpful to raise awareness on language teaching
