Welcome to Basgaith War college

Located roughly in the middle of Navarre. The building itself is split into two halves, the main lower portion is dedicated to Scribes, Healers, Infantry, and Administrations. While the upper half, the Citadel, is for the Riders Quadrant. The main building itself is built into the side of Basgiath Moutain In order to be here, all students are required to pass a written and physical agility exam. While the majority go straight into the infantry, those that pass become candidates of their choice of quadrant. Candidates are a mixture of volunteers, conscripts, and those serving Narvarre as punishment for crimes. However, the Riders Quadrant only accepts volunteers and the 107 children from the rebellion.

Violet sorrengail

Description: Violet is 20 years old and suffers from a condition similar to today's Ehler's-Danlos syndrome (). She is described as being small and frail. She has hazel eyes and long brown hair that fades to silver tips. Dragon(s): Tairn and Adarna. (name meaning: thunder, and second honour). Signet: Lightning weilder, second signet unknown.

Xaden Riorson (Xaddy)

Description: Xaden is 23-years-old and is a wingleader at the Basgiath War College. He is described at being about 6 feet 4 inches, onyx speckled with flecks of gold eyes, black hair and dark eyebrows. His facial features are marked by a strong jawline, and his skin is a tawny colour. He has a dianogal scar that bisects his left eyebrow and marks the top corner of his cheek. He has a rebellion relic. Dragon: Sgaeyl (name meaning: shadow). Signet: Shadow Wielder and Intention Inntinsic.

General lilith sorrengail

Description: She is the General of Basgiath War College. Her age is unknown, but she is described as tall, strong, and muscular. She has golden-brown hair sheared short for combat. Dragon: Aimsir (name meaning: weather). Signet: Power of storms.

Mira Sorrengail

Description: Mira is a Lieutenant and an accomplished Rider. She is tall, strong, muscular, skin that radiates health, and golden-brown short hair.Dragon: Teine (Name meaning: Fire).Signet: Extending wards

brennan Sorrengail

Description: "died" at the Battle of Aretia, and was killed by Xaden's father. He is described as. brilliant strategist. Dragon:Signet: Mender.

Dain aetos (aka bitch boy)

Description: Childhood best friends of Violet. They have been friend since they were 5 or 6. Dain has soft brown eyes, full lips, and sandy-brown hair. He has a scar peeking through his beard along his chin. Squad leader later to become a Wingleader.Dragon: Cath (name meaning: battle).Signet: Retrocognition.

Rhiannon Matthias

Description: She is from the Morraine Province. She has dark skin, high cheekbones, and an oval face. She has brown eyes and dark brown hair worn in several rows of short braids. Dragon: Feirge (name meaning: anger).Signet: Summoner.

Liam mairi (aka my baby boy)

Description: Violet's protector,. and Xaden's foster brother. he is tall with spiky-blond hair. He has strong features, a prominent nose, and sky-blue eyes. He has a dumple when he smiles.Dragon: Deigh (name meaning: ice).Signet: Farsightedness and ice?

Garrick tavis

Description: One of Xaden's closest friends. He is a section leader, with tall dark-hair and wide shoulders. Garrick is densely packed with muscle, and he has the second-largest rebellion relic. Dragon: Chradh (name meaning: pain).Signet: unknown.

bodhi durran (aka baby Xaddy)

Description: Xaden's cousin. He is handsome, with tawny brown skin and black curls. His bronzed skin complements a strong brow line. He is said to look a lot like Xaden, but a softer more approachable version. Dragon: Cuir (name meaning: add?).Signet: countering signets.

Naolin

Description: Naolin is a character that hasn't been talked about much. He was Tairn's first and only rider before Violet. He "died" trying to resurrect Brennan at the Battle of Aretia. Dragon: Tairn (name meaning: thunder).Signet: Siphon (he could absorb power from various sources such as dragons or people and then redistribute it. "he died trying to save your bother, but Brennan was too far gone" professor Kaori.

Sawyer Henrick

Description: is a first year who is tall and has a lean physique, accompanied by a fair complexion adorned with scattered freckles. He exudes an athletic demeanour. He is a repeated because during Threshing he didn't bond with a dragon. Dragon: Sliseag(name meaning: slice).Signet: Merallurgist

Imogen (mommy)

Description: Has a half-shaved, half-pink hairstyle, She proudly wears a rebellion relix xoiled around her forearm. She is taller than Violet, and has a toned physique, and striking pale green eyes. Hooped piercings line the shells of both of her ears, adding to her unique style.Dragon: Glane (name meaning: unknown).Signet: Eraseing recent memories.

Jesenia Neilwart

Description: Not much of a description of Jesenia is given, but she has long brown hair that is usually covered by her scribe hood. She is deaf and uses sign language. Her and Violet studied together for a year for the scribe entrance exam. She is twenty years old.

Catriona Cordella

Description: A Gryphon flier and Xaden's ex (they were betrothed for 9 months). She has dark long black hair that is usually braided over her shoulder, dark eyes, a lithe build, high cheekbones, and a fair skin tone. She's twenty-two years old and is the younger sister of Syrena. Gyphon: Kiralair Power: Heightening emotions.

Syrena Cordella

Description: A Gryphon flier and Xaden's ex (they were betrothed for 9 months). Navarre

The continent consistss of six unique provinces. Tyrrendor is the southernmost and largest province, it shares a border with the province of Korvla within the Poromiel kingdom.

Navarre's history

To the east of Navarre lie the remaining two Promiel provinces of Braevick and Cygnisen, with the Esben Mountains providing a natural border.

Beyond Krovla lies a distant Barrens, a desert. Tyrrendor was the last of the bordering provinces to join the alliance and swear fealty to King Reginald.

It is also the only province to attempt secession six hundred and twenty-seven years later, which would have left Navarre defenselss had they been sucessful.

The Trade Agreement of Resson, signed more than two hundred years ago.

Navarre's history

328 AU-Second Cgyni Incursion: A four day skirmish that lead to Cygnisen being absorbed into the Kingdom of Poromiel.

1 AU- Unification of Navarre: Provinces of Luceras, Morraine, Elsum, Deaconshire, Tyrrendor, and Calldyr unify. Unified under the first wards and adopted a common language that mostly blended their existing cultures together. Tyrrendor was the last to swear fealty

Date unknown- Trade Agreement of Resson: Signed more than two hundred years ago. ensures the exchange of meat and lumber from Navarrefor the cloth and agricultlure within Promomiel four times a year.

1-2 AU - the Great Migration of the First Year: What is now known as Poromiel allowed anyone to seek refuge under it's ward, but only for a year. after that year, everyone was turned away.

Est. 435 AU- Second Krovlan Uprising: Roughly 200 years prior to the events of Iron Flame. Commanding Generals of the Riders and Commanding General of the Army used to be separate positions prior to the uprising. Afterwards the Commander of the Riders began commanding all of Navarre's military forces.

234 AU- Beginning of War with Poromiel: a 400+ year war with Poromiel.

History of Navarre continued

627 AU- Beginnig of the Tyrrish Rebellion.

July 1, 628 AU- Battle of Aretia: Final battle of Navarre defeated Tyrrendor. Brennan is "killed" and revived during this battle. Fen Riorson was captured by General Lilith Sorrengail. The Battle of Aretia was the offical final battle ending the Tyrrish Rebellion. Following Riorson's capture, the heads of Tyrrish nobles homes who led the rebellion were executed at Calldyr. The children of those condemned to death were forced to watch the executions of their family members. In accordance with the Treaty of Aretia, the city was burned by dragon. fire ending the separatist movement.

Article three, section unknown: it is unlawful for a rider to cause another harm while in a quadrant formation or in the supervision of a superior-ranking cadet, as it will diminish the efficacy of the wing.

Rider's codex

Article unknown: People within the same squad cannot kill each other.

Article one, section one: A dragon without its rider is a strategy. A rider without their dragon is dead.

Article four, section one: That all cadet belongings are subject to search at the discretion of command.

Article two, section three: impersonating a comissioned officer is a punishable offence.

Article three, section two: It's an executable offence to attack any cadet while sleeping.

Article three, section six, addendum B: A rider may only bring to the quadrant the items they can carry, and they shall not be separated from those items, not matter what they may be. For once, carried across the parapet, they are considered part of their person.

Article four, section three: without cause and calling a quorum of wingleaders, other Riders quadrant leaders cannot be harmed.

Article five, section seven: Though not forbidden, cadets are strongly encouraged not to develop strong romantic attachments while studying in the quadrant for the efficiency of the unit. Though the chain of command may be consulted, the final say in any academic punishment or repercussion lies with the commandant's office.

Brown dragons

All dragons can have different types of tails; clubtails, scopriontails, sword tails, moringstar tails, daggertails, or feather tails (when not yet adults).

Brown dragons should not be shown fear or apprehension.

Red dragons

All dragons can have differetn types of tails; clubtails, scopriontails, sword tails, moringstar tails, daggertails, or feather tails (when not yet adults).

have a quick temper and should approached from the left or front, avoiding eye contact.

Green dragons

Green dragons are highly intelligent and make excellent siege weapons. Submission and patience are essential when approaching them.

Orange dragons

All dragons can have differetn types of tails; clubtails, scopriontails, sword tails, moringstar tails, daggertails, or feather tails (when not yet adults).

Orange dragons exhibit a range of hues and are unpredictable descredants of the Fhaicorain lineage.

Black dragons

All dragons can have differetn types of tails; clubtails, scopriontails, sword tails, moringstar tails, daggertails, or feather tails (when not yet adults).

Black dragons are the rarest, and they are the strongest.

Andarna is a seventh breed. She disguises as a black dragon. However, she was left behind by her breed to breathe fire for the wardstone. She waited 650 years to hatch.

Mind related powers

Wielder

Several characters have mind related powers. Whether that's reading intentions, erasing recent memories, or reading a person's recent memories.

Wielders come in all shapes in forms. Some are more common than others. Fire, ice, air manipulation are some of the more common ones, while the power of storms, lightning, and shadows is more rare.

Signets that don't have a category

Finally, we move onto the signets that don't really belong to any of the categories.

Menders

Menders are extremely rare. While they can repair what has been broken that it there, they cannot mend what it not there.

Venin

Venin(dark wielders) are unique in their ability to draw power from the ground, a stark contrast to the traditional bond between a dragon or gryphon and their rider. This divergence in power has profound implications, leading to a loss of soul and a corruption of blood.

Initiates: reddish rings to their eyes that come and go depending on how often they drain.

sages: those responsible for intitates- eyes are permanently red, their veins are perpetually distended toward their temples, expanding with age.

Asims: eyes fluctuate in degrees of red, and their veins distend when rile.

Mavens: their generals- have never been captured with examination.

Theories: Naolin

• Naolin isn't actually dead.
• "'Naolin didn't fail, but it cost him everything..." (Page 26).
• Tairn never wants to speak of his previous rider.
• Plus he is always worried about Violet going too far with her powers and overreaching with them.
• Did Naolin not die at the Battle of Aretia, but instead turn into a venin?
• Is that why Tairn almost died because he severed his bond with his rider that was still alive?

Theories: the two other dragons that died with their riders

• Not much is said about this.
• However, I think this is something that is important to point out.
• "A dragon without its rider is a tragedy. A rider without their dragon is dead." (Page 13, Fourth Wing).
• There are only two other times when a dragon has died when their rider has died.
• What was the cause?
• Did they sever their bonds?

Theories: Varrish

• was Varrish a Venin?
• What did he want with Jack?
• If he wanted to keep the secret of what was going on outside of Navarre hidden, why would he keep Jack around?

Theories: The three brothers

• Are the three brothers a parellel to the three Sorrengail siblings?
• Violent being the third brother who commands the sky, Brennan being the gryphon rider, and Mira being the third who turns venin.
• "But it was the third brother, who commanded the sky to surrender its greatest power, who finally vanquished his sibling at a great and terrible price." (Page 391, Iron Flame).

Theories: Andarna

• Andarna waited 650 to hatch. Both of her parents are dead. Something killed off the venin 600 years ago. Was it her kind?
• "Something killed off the venin sixd hundred years ago during the Great War, and we're actively searching for that weapon..." (Page 30, Iron Flame).
• She waited to hatch until Violet turned 18.
• She KNEW that Violet would be a rider.
• "'You couldn't't have known I would be a rider.' 'And yet, here we are'" (Page 564, Iron Flame).
• Does Andarna have some sort of foresight or timetravel capabilities?

Theories: Violet's second Signet

• What does Violet NEED?
• Rebecca has said that her second signet manifests in Iron Flame.
• Amplifier: being able to amplifier others signets.
• Healing or mending souls

Theories: Nolon can mend souls

• Nolon is a very powerful mender.
• Menders can only mend what is already there. They can't mend what is not there.

Theories: Who is mr. Sorrengail?

• Very little is said about Mr. Sorrengail.
• He was a scribe, but his first name is left unmentioned throughout both books.
• His heart "failed" a year after Brennan's death.
• We don't know his hometown.
• How did he know about the Fables?
• How did he have a copy of the Fables?

Theories: What do the venin want with Violet?

• We know that Violet has several dreams that involve the "Sage" venin.
• The one venin tells her that she will be rewarded when she brings back Violet alive. But why do they want her?
• "'You'll be so much fun for him to wield.'" (page 551, Iron Flame).
• "'Fight me and die, or join me and live beyond the ages, but you will never escape me, not when I've waited centuries for someone with your power.'" (page 212, Iron Flame).

Theories: The love triangle

• Yarros has said in an interview that she doesn't do the stereotypical tropes.
• Lovers to enemies is the trope here.
• However, with that being said is she going to end up with Dain in the end... or with fucking Jack Barlowe?

• "'He did, but it was after my mom had a really long night while we were stationed near the eastern border, and her eyes were bloodshot red, so I freaked out and started shrieking...She took my book of fables away for a month because the outpost guards all came running,...'"
