PROLOGUE Two households, both alike in dignity, In fair Verona, where we lay our scene, From ancient grudge break to new mutiny, Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean. From forth the fatal loins of these two foes A pair of ____-_______ _____ take their life; Whose misadventured piteous overthrows Do with their death bury their parents' strife. The fearful passage of their death-mark'd love, And the continuance of their parents' rage, Which, but their children's end, nought could remove, Is now the two hours' traffic of our stage; The which if you with patient ears attend, What here shall miss, our toil shall strive to mend.

When teaching the young lovers, I must remember how differently they speak from me Juliet often uses strange words beginning with where-, such as whereof (of what) or wherein (in which). Their meanings are not always literal…many where- words are questions… but not about place These verbs confuse me … dost means do and hath have… Their endings show the subject, I believe. art ? → present form? I think I'm starting to understand, if thy is for your, thine yours… then thou and thee surely mean ??? These shortened forms — ’twas, ’twere, ’twill — all hide the word it, though in different tenses. Friar Lawrence

Fiar Lawrence

Behold, Friar Lawrence, a holy man of Verona, whose counsel shapes the destinies of Romeo and Juliet. In the midst of the star-crossed lovers' plight, he devises a daring plan to save the passionate souls of Romeo and Juliet from the clutches of tragic fate. His hands craft potions and plans, but will his letter find Romeo in time?

Paris

Hark, noble Paris, a gentleman of Verona's court. An aspirant suitor to the fair Juliet, he seeks to win her heart and join the tapestry of Capulet lineage. Unbeknownst to him, the path of love meets the threads of tragedy. In the final act, Paris meets his untimely end at the hands of Romeo in a fateful duel, adding a somber note to the intricate design of Verona's fate.

Romeo

Hark, good gentlefolk! Meet Romeo Montague, a youth of Verona, whose breast doth harbor a fiery love. His eyes, like stars, are fixed on Juliet, a Capulet maiden. His deeds are marked by passion, from clandestine courtship to a fateful duel. A Montague by name, yet by love entwined in the ancient feud's dire game.

Mercutio

Lo, Mercutio! Mercutio, a confidant to Romeo and a jester with a blade as sharp as his wit. In Verona's streets, he dances with mirth and jest. Yet, his jests provoke a clash with Tybalt that leads to his demise. In the tapestry of tragedy, his untamed spirit ignites a tempest that alters the course of Verona's fate.

Tybalt

Tybalt, the fiery Capulet, with a temper swift as lightning. A cousin to Juliet, his quarrel with Romeo sets the stage for sorrow and strife, and the streets of Verona become a stage for vengeance and sorrow. Alas, in a tragic twist, Romeo duels him and forces his passing to another life.

Juliet

Juliet, the fair Capulet maiden, whose heart beats in rhythm with love's sweet song. In secret, she courts Romeo, a Montague, amidst the clash of opposing families. In her despair, she agrees to a bold plan from Friar Laurence — to drink a potion that makes her look as if she were dead.
