we use the comparative form of adjectives and the word THAN to compare two people or things

pretty -> prettier scary -> scarier

large -> larger nice -> nicer

-ier

-r

-er

small -> smaller cheap -> cheaper

expensive -> more expensive difficult -> more difficult

good-> better bad-> worse far -> farther/further

2 syllables or longer

"Don't forget to use THAN after the adjective!"

To compare two things, we can also use the structure: (not) as + adjective + as. COMPARATIVO DI UGUAGLIANZA: John is as tall as Mary = John è alto come Mary. Per negare l'uguaglianza tra due termini, al posto del comparativo di minoranza, posso usare la stessa struttura ma alla forma negativa: Not as + adjective + as: London isn’t as expensive as New York. Milan isn’t as big as Rome.
