SAO PAULO

Why Sao Paulo?

On the other hand, we chose it because last year Koldo and I were on holiday in Sao Paulo and we saw how beautiful it was and how people painted the streets. We also realised that it was not much appreciated, so we encourage you to visit it and it has one of the most important street arts in the world.

In this city at first people harassed the street artists but over time they realised that it was nice and even started paying them to do graffiti.

THE NEIGHBOURHOODS

Grajaú is the place with the most graffiti artists in São Paulo. It was the neighbourhood where the first graffitis artists in sao paulo started to do graffiti and many artists went to other neighbourhoods to continue doing graffitis.

In the Vila Madalena neighbourhood there is a place called Beco do Batman and it is a corridor where there are the most important graffitis in Brazil. The name Beco do Batman comes from the artist Comics Batman who was the first to make the first graffiti on these walls.

LOSGEMEOS are identical twin street artists Otavio Pandolfo and Gustavo Pandolfo born 1974. They started painting graffiti in 1987 and their work appears on streets and in galleries across the world.

03. Nina Pandolfo

She started drawing and painting at the age of 3. At the age of 12, Nina Pandolfo started tagging public walls. She later became part of the group whose graffiti art featured in galleries and museums. Using plastic, latex, and resin, Pandolfo makes use of a wide variety of materials. Her work includes themes that draw from childhood and nature. She paints female subjects with wide-eyed, childish features in mysterious environments. Her characters evolve into more sophisticated forms with deeper more contemplative gazes.

Binho Ribeiro has a solid career as a graffiti artist, being the founder and curator of three editions of the Bienal Graffiti Fine Arts. As a pioneer of street art in Latin America, the artist has his work displayed in cities around the world, like Paris, Beijing and Amsterdam.
