The rupture with Elijah Muhammad

  • 1964: Malcolm X left the Nation of Islam because of intense disagreements between him and Elijah Muhammad
  • He left the US and went for a trip in Africa and in the Middle East. During this journey, he learned that violence was not the solution to problems.
  • Returning to the US, he said, “The true brotherhood I had seen had influenced me to recognize that anger can blind human vision.”

Death

  • On Feburary 21st, 1965, Malcolm X died, shot in New York while giving a speech
  • It is likely to think that the Nation of Islam was behind this murder, for revengeful reasons
