Childhood
- Born on the 19th of May 1925, Nebraska, USA
- As a child, Malcolm moved with his family to Lansing in Michigan
- Father died hit by a car in 1931
- Very poor family
- Mother was sent to an asylum/psychiatric hospital so Malcolm and his siblings were placed in foster homes or had to live with family members

- Brilliant student but he abandoned his studies
- He moved to Boston
- During his teenage years he got involved in criminal activities such as a street hustler or drug dealer

The Nation of Islam
- While in prison, he joined the Nation of Islam, an African American movement that combined elements of Islam with Black nationalism
- Following the Nation's rules he changed his surname, “Little” to “X”
- He decided to quit all the bad habits he had fallen into and educate himself
- Out of prison, he met Elijah Muhammad the Nation's minister and admired him a lot
- In 1958, Malcolm married Betty Shabazz and had 6 daughters with her

The rupture with Elijah Muhammad
- 1964: Malcolm X left the Nation of Islam because of intense disagreements between him and Elijah Muhammad
- He left the US and went for a trip in Africa and in the Middle East. During this journey, he learned that violence was not the solution to problems.
- Returning to the US, he said, “The true brotherhood I had seen had influenced me to recognize that anger can blind human vision.”
Death
- On Feburary 21st, 1965, Malcolm X died, shot in New York while giving a speech
- It is likely to think that the Nation of Islam was behind this murder, for revengeful reasons
