Definition

Ha ul kinayah represents the third person singular male which is called also Ha ud Damir or the possesive pronoun Ha. example :

إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ

Conditions

It should be a third person singular male.

This is an extra Ha.

It occurs at the end of the words ( nouns, verbs, participles ).

This should not be a part of the root words.

Basically it carries a Damma but if it is preceded by a letter with Kasra or Ya sakin ( Ya Maddiya or Ya Leen ) then it carries a Kasra.

Exceptions of conditions of 4 & 5

**Note**According to riwaiyah shu'bah we follow the general rules in this case.

All the rules of ha ul kinayah will apply here even it is an original ha. Example :

2 words according to riwaiyah Hafs, where it's read with a domma.

Introduction to Imam Shu'bah

He is the first raowi of imam A'sim. Most of us follow riwaiyah Hafs an A'sim. Imam Hafs is the second raowi of imam A'sim.

4 Positions of ha ul kinayah

(For both Imam)

It is voweled, preceded by a vowel letter and followed by a sakin letter. Rule: No silah madd here.

Ha ul kinayah is voweled between two sakin letters.Rule: No silah madd here.

It is voweled( with harakah) , is between two mutaharrik letters.Rule: Silah madd here.

It is voweled, preceded by a sakin letter and followed by a vowel letter.Rule: No silah madd here.

Note for Number 4

Only in number 4, madd as Silah sugra (connective lengthening) rule is applied with 2 counts élongation in waslan if it's not followed by a hamza. But if it is followed by a hamza then madd as silah qubra ( greater connective lengthening ) rule is applied with 4 or 5 counts elongation.Examples: In waqfan, ha ul kinayah always carries a sukun.

Similarities between Imam Shu'bah & Imam Hafs:

There are 2 words where both raowi of Imam Asim read ha ul kinayah with sukun.

أَرْجِهْ وَأَخَاهُ

فَأَلْقِهْ إِلَيْهِمْ

sura shu'ara : (26:36)

sura namol : (27:28)

sura Aa’raf: (7:111)

Note: Ecceptions for both

Differences between Imam Shu'bah & Imam Hafs:

There are 5 words where imam shu'bah reads differently from imam Hafs. That means ha ul kinayah with sukun which is an exception for imam shu'bah.

وَإِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ

لِرَبِّهِۦ لَكَنُودٌۭ

فَأُمُّهُۥ هَاوِيَةٌۭ

وَثَاقَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌۭ

فِيهِۦ مُهَانًا

عَذَابَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌۭ

يَرْضَهُ لَكُمْ

نُؤْتِهِۦ مِنْهَا

رَبِّهِۦ فَصَلَّىٰ

مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ

لَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ

مَّـٰكِثِينَ فِيهِ أَبَدًۭا

Find ha ul kinayah here and indicate the rule :

فَأَرَىٰهُ ٱلْـَٔايَةَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ

وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُۥ يَزَّكَّىٰٓ

إِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَجْعِهِۦ لَقَادِرٌۭ

مَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُ مَالُهُۥ وَمَا كَسَبَ

إِذْ نَادَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ بِٱلْوَادِ ٱلْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًى

فَأَمَّا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَأَكْرَمَهُۥ وَنَعَّمَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَكْرَمَنِ

وَمَن يُرِدْ ثَوَابَ ٱلدُّنْيَا نُؤْتِهِۦ مِنْهَا وَمَن يُرِدْ ثَوَابَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ نُؤْتِهِۦ مِنْهَا

وَلَقَدْ رَءَاهُ بِٱلْأُفُقِ ٱلْمُبِينِ

يُوفُونَ بِٱلنَّذْرِ وَيَخَافُونَ يَوْمًۭا كَانَ شَرُّهُۥ مُسْتَطِيرًۭا

وَمَنْ أَوْفَىٰ بِمَا عَـٰهَدَ عَلَيْهُ ٱللَّهَ فَسَيُؤْتِيهِ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًۭا

وَمَآ أَنسَىٰنِيهُ إِلَّا ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ أَنْ أَذْكُرَهُۥ

ٱذْهَب بِّكِتَـٰبِى هَـٰذَا فَأَلْقِهْ إِلَيْهِمْ

وَمَن يُطِعِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ وَيَخْشَ ٱللَّهَ وَيَتَّقْهِ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْفَآئِزُونَ

Exception

2 words according to riwaiyah Hafs, where it's read with a domma. Sura kahf : 63 وَما أَنْسانِيْهُ إِلَّا Sura fath : 10 عَلَيْهُ الله

Exception

If it's a part of a root word, then it's not a ha ul kinayah. Example: فَواكِه But in the word هَذِه there is an original ha (ه) , it's not a ha domir even all the rules of ha ul kinayah will apply here.
