Why is George Washington important?

• he led the Colonial Army to victory of the War of Indipendence (1775-1783)
• he helped produce the Constitution
• 1789: he became the first president of the USA without one vote against
• 1792: he was elected for the second time
• he thought that the USA should be neutral in foreign affairs, so he tried to find a balance between Federalists and Democratic-Republicans.
• In 1794 farmers in Pennsylvania rebelled against the whiskey tax, so he sent soldiers to end the rebellion
