PLOT DEVICES
is a storytelling tool or technique that is used to propel a narrative. A well-written plot device can be deeply satisfying to a reader or audience member.
FLASHBACK
A flashback (sometimes called an analepsis) is an interjected scene that takes the narrative back in time from the current point in the story. Flashbacks are often used to recount events that happened before the story's primary sequence of events to fill in crucial backstory.
FORESHADOWING
A plot device where the story presents an image or a scene which gives the reader an advance hint of what is to come later in the story. Foreshadowing often appears at the beginning of a story, and it helps develop or subvert the audience's expectations about upcoming events.
EXPOSITION
is the part of a story that provides essential background information to understand the characters, setting, and initial conflict. It sets the stage by introducing key elements such as the time and place of the story, the main characters, their relationships, and the basic situation they are in.
FALLING ACTION
The falling action occurs after the climax and leads to the resolution of the story. It shows the effects of the climax and begins to wrap up the plot. During this phase, loose ends are tied up, unanswered questions are addressed, and the story moves towards its conclusion, providing closure for the reader or audience.
RISING ACtion
is a series of events that lead to the story's climax. During the rising action, tension and conflict build as the main characters encounter obstacles, complications, and challenges that they must overcome. This part of the story drives the plot forward, and the stakes become higher as the characters struggle to achieve their goals or resolve the central conflict.
CLIMAX
In literature, the climax is the turning point of the story, where the conflict reaches its peak and the tension is at its highest. This is often the most intense or dramatic moment in the story the climax is the moment of greatest tension or suspense in a narrative. It's the turning point of the story, where the conflict comes to a head and the outcome becomes inevitable
RESOLUTION OR DENOUEMENT
Resolutions - The part where a characters in literature solves the problems Denouement - The final part of a film or narrative. - The very end of a story, the part where all the different plotlines are finally tied up and all remaining questions answered.
