  • Most of the essential solutes and substances, like glucose, proteins, amino acids, a major portion of electrolytes and water, are reabsorbed in the PROXIMAL CONVOLUTED TUBE (PCT) .
  • The RENAL PELVIS is the cavity that collects urine and connects to the ureters.
  • These skin glands are responsible for sweat excretion.
  • Sweat is a liquid made from 99% water and 1% salt and fat.
  • They eliminate toxic substances that results from cell metabolism through the urine.

  • It produces a liquid called BILE that helps to eliminate waste from digestion through faeces.

  • The DISTAL CONVOLUTED TUBE (DCT) secretes ions such as hydrogen, potassium.
  • DCT helps to maintain the pH and sodium-potassium levels in the blood.
  • The RENAL MEDULLA is the inner part of the kidney.
  • It contains tissue called RENAL PYRAMIDS
  • The COLLECTING DUCT collects urine and channels it into the renal pelvis, and from there to the ureter.
  • The kidneys are located below the ribs in the middle of the back.
  • The RENAL ARTERY carries blood with waste to each kidney.
  • The RENAL VEIN carries the filtered blood away from the kidney.
  • Waste products and water become URINE.
  • The RENAL CORTEX is the outer part of the kidney.
  • The LOOP OF HENLE is a U-shaped segment that reabsorbs ions and some water.
  • The BOWMAN'S CAPSULE is a double-walled sac that surrounds the glomerulus.
  • It takes the filtered materials obtained from the glomerulus, most small molecules like water and salts, to the next part, the proximal convoluted tubule (PCT).
  • They expel carbon dioxide from cellular respiration.
  • The GLOMERULUS is a network of filtering capillaries through which blood and waste pass.

It consists of 3 organs:

  • URETERS - two tubes connecting the kidneys to the bladder.
  • The BLADDER - a muscular elastic bag to collect urine.
  • The URETHRA - carries urine from the bladder outside of our body during URINATION.
In men, it also carries semen.
