INVERTEBRATES
95% of the animals are invertebrates
WE CAN CLASSIFY THEM IN DIFFERENT GROUPS: 1. ARTHROPODS 2. MOLLUSCS 3. ECHINODERMS 4. CNIDARIANS (JELLYFISH) 5. SPONGES 6. ANNELIDS (WORMS)
THEY SHARE ONE CHARACTERISTIC : THEY DON´T HAVE BACKBONE

They are the biggest group of invertebates. They have many articulated legs and an external skeleton that protects their body.
INVERTEBRATES
insects
THEY ARE THE LARGEST GROUP OF ARTHROPODSTHEY ARE OVER 1 MILLION SPECIES OF INSECTS BODY FEATURES: -Their body is divided in three parts: head, thorax, abdomen -They have two antennae -Most of them have wings -They have six legs EXAMPLES: butterfly, bee, ladybug, grasshopper, ant, caterpillar, fly, criket, wasp, dragonfly....
arthropods
Some insects develop the metamorphosis, for example the butterfly.
metamorphosis
arthropods
invertebrates
BODY FEATURES: -Their body is divided in two parts: cephalothorax, abdomen -They have two antennae -They have ten legs EXAMPLES: crab, lobster
crustaceans
arthropods
BODY FEATURES: -Their body is divided in two parts: cephalothorax, abdomen -Their head and thorax are together forming the cephalothorax. -They don´t have antennae -They don´t have wings -They have eight legs EXAMPLES: spider, scorpion
arachnids
arthropods
WHERE DO THEY LIVE? at the botton of the sea CAN THEY MOVE? No, they can´t . They are fixed to the sea floor. WHAT IS THEIR BODY LIKE? Their body has a lot of pores. Pores are small holes WHAT DO THEY EAT ? They also absorb dissolved nutrients from the water. HOW DO THEY EAT? Water and food enter their body through their pores.
SPONGES
INVERTEBRATES
Jellyfish can be dangerous. They are over 2000 species of jellyfish WHERE DO THEY LIVE? from the surface waters to the deep sea. CAN THEY MOVE? Yes, by squeezing their body. WHAT IS THEIR BODY LIKE? They have got poisonous tentacles. They don´t have brain. They have 24 eyes. WHAT DO THEY EAT ? They eat fish, shrimp, crabs and tiny plants. HOW DO THEY EAT? They use their tentacles.
JELLYFISH
INVERTEBRATES
WHERE DO THEY LIVE? They live in the water, normally in shallow waters CAN THEY MOVE? yes, they use their small feet to move along the sea floor WHAT DO THEY LOOK LIKE? they have small feet. Starfish have eyes. Sea urchin don´t . WHAT DO THEY EAT ? Starfish eat mussels, sponges and other shellfish. Sea urchin eat algae, plankton and small shellfish. HOW DO THEY EAT? They have a mouth and a simple digestive system. EXAMPLES: STARFISH AND SEA URCHIN
ECHINODERMS
INVERTEBRATES
WHERE DO THEY LIVE? They live in the ground or in the water. CAN THEY MOVE? yes, they move by contracting their body muscles. WHAT DO THEY LOOK LIKE? they have a long and soft body. Their body is divided in segments. The segments look like rings. WHAT DO THEY EAT ? They eat dirt, animal manure, and organic matter such as leaves, dead roots, and grass. HOW DO THEY EAT? They have a mouth but no teeth.

They use their body to move along the ground of the water. WITH INTERNAL SHELL WITH ONE SHELL WITH TWO SHELLS SQUID SNAIL MUSSELS
