Indefinite pronouns

The indefinite pronouns are those words that are used to refer to people, animals or objects, without saying exactly who or what they are because it is not important to mention them or because their identity is unknown. The indefinite pronouns constructed with some, any, no and every vary depending on whether we are referring to people, things or places and also depending on the type of sentence: affirmative, negative or interrogative.

SOMEONE

Affirmative Statements

We can use someone in positive staments and requests and offers.

EXAMPLES

  • There is someone at the door.
  • She saw someone in your house.
  • Can you send someone to help me?
  • There´s someone at the office.

Anyone

Negative Statements

We use anyone in negative staments and in information questions.

EXAMPLES

  • Don't tell anyone.
  • Don't let anyone dull your sparkle.
  • Is anyone going to sit here?
  • There isn't anyone here who can help you.

No one

Affirmative Statements

To refer to the absence of people, things or places.

EXAMPLES

  • No one listened to me.
  • No one seemed to hear.
  • No one can know everything.
  • Almost no one believed her.
  • No one voted against it.

Thank You!
