Visit Cilaos city
Do canioning
And go hiking...of course !!
The main difference between rougail and carry is the nature of the ingredients used and how they are prepared. While, civet is made with some wine preparation (meat marinated in the wine) we can do them with poultry (chiken, ducks…) or with «zourit», the creole name octopus.
My grand mother is the Reunionese typical food’s Queen !
She always says :
And I’m totally agree with her !
In «rougails» and «carrys» the most important is thyme and garlic because it’s them that give all the flavour to the food !!
So, let's begin with some examples of carrys :
Carry poulet
Carry "La patte cochon"
We can also eat this dish with corn.
with pig’s feet!
(poulet is chicken in french)
Ti jacques boucané
(Ti-Jacques it’s a big fruit like a sapotis, we cut it realy thinly, and boucané it’s a part of pig….. a type of lard, yes we eat a lot of pig ! Boucané is also a way to prepare te meat...That consist on letting she in the sun a long time.)
Carry Camaron
A type of gambas
Some examples of rougails now :
Rougail Morue :
Rougail saucisses :
(saucisses is sausage….but we do it with sausage boucanées…..that have been put in the sun)
(Morue is a type of fish.)
In Reunion Island we eat also foreign specialities because many cultures mix here.
Samoussas
Samoussas
it may taste different but the most common are those with chicken, cheese and aubergine.
Le best flavour is with porc and combava....but it can be made with chicken or fish.
Cabri massalé
Indian origin; is composed of goat's meat with potatoes and a spice called a massalé

«Rougail» can also be an accompagnment, we serve it generally to add more chili in our dish. It can be made with green mango, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, or with peanut butter, the brand of this peanut butter is «Dakatine», so when we use this, we name the rougail, «rougail Dakatine» (on the preparation we add onions and tomatoes).

We have a lot of fruits in Reunion Island !!
The Bananas
The pinapples Victoria
The letchis
This is my Reunion Island favourite fruit without hesitating !
The papayas
You can do a traditional cake with it : "The pâté créole".
The Passion fruits
1_american mangoes
mangoes "José"
This is third in my podium, a really good mangoe...very juicy !
This is second in my podium, the best mangoe !!
The coconut
The Tamarin
More considered as a candy, it is sour, like lemon and seemed to please the Finnish people in October.
"le Chemin de fer"
A long roll with cream into and pink sugar on the top.
"Pâté Créole"
A little bit like your Santa Lucia’s cakes, originally nature or with meat into but now we eat with papaya’s jam……..and to me it’s the best, cause they do with other jams too!
"Gâteau patate"
A cake made with sweet potatoes...one of the best ! We have the banana cake also (my grand mother do the best) and a lot of other cakes made with some roots.
"Gâteau Ti son"
Made with corn flour called ti son.
Then we have speciality that we name «bonbon», that means candy, but it’s not candy…..
"Bonbon millet"
"Bonbon miel"
A type of donut with a lot of honey….for Finish people, it was too much sugar on it…"bonbon cravate", the same but more crispy and with tie's form.
Made with this cereal : the millet or hirssi in Finnish.
Who is Antoine de St Exupéry ?
He is a french writer, poet, aviator and reporter.
OUR School : Antoine de St Exupéry !
It is a relatively big school of around 1500 students from 15 to 17, It is made out of 7 building, 4 are deducated to learning and the other 3 are the one for the nurse and for the sick students to rest, the other one is the cafeteria and the last one is for the students that stay inside the school during the week and for the MDL that i will explain later.
LABS :
So Welcome to Reunion, the intense island !!
But when people made their own peanut butter with real peanuts and put on onions and tomatoes too, we cannot say «rougail Dakatine» (because it’s the brand’s name), so we have to say «Rougail pistaches» (in real, in french «pistache is pistachio but in Reunion, when we say «pistache» it can be peanut). For examples we have an ice cream’s brand, «ADELIS» (it’s not my favorite….it’s so chemical ! But Reunionese people are attached to this brand) and they do a pistachio ice cream’s flavour but it’s an peanut ice cream for real…...but the ice cream is green…….It's confusing !
