Szeklersz played an important rolein the defense of the Kingdom of Hungary against the Ottomans.
  • The Szeklers are a Hungarian subgroup
living mostly in Transylvania, Romania.
  • With the Treaty of Trianon of 1920,
Transylvania ( including the Szekler Land became part of Romania)

Alt Epiphany, after Christmas, the faithfull all over Szekler Land wait for the Roman Catholic priests to bless their houses with holy water.

The Dayof the Thousend Szekler Girl is an annul traditional gatheringof Szekler folk costume, folk dance and folk music, which usually takes place on the first Saturdey in July in Csíkszereda.

The biggest tradition of Szekler Land in the Csíksomlyó Pilgrimage, In the Church is the Statue that represent the Virgin Mary and baby Jesus. In 2019 Pope Francis, accepted the invitation of the Catholic Church, and made an apostolic visit to Csíksomlyó.

FOLKWAYS AND TRADITIONS

The ancient Hungarian writing technique is stall used in Szekler Land..

Every piece of ceramic plate is decorated with different kinds of plants and flowers.

The traditional clothes are unicly sewed, handmade from special linen, hemp and wool.

THE SZEKLER CULTURE

The Nagy Imre Primary School was founded after the events of December 1989 ( fall of communism)The school received its name from Nagy Imre. Nagy Imre was a university professor, he became a sculptor. He studied in Budapest , drawing and painting at the Art Academy, and in 1924 he came home. He settled in Zsögöd, where he painted the Szekler landscapes and its people until his death.

My School

  • Csíkszereda is one coldest cityes in Romania and annually hosts the national ice hockey chemionships.
  • Out of the whole population, 81,39% are ethnic Hungarians.
  • The Mikó Castle it is among the city`s most important monuments, it was built between 1623 1630. And today is an ethnografic museum devoted to the Szekler heritage.
  • In Csíkszereda we have in total 13 primary and elementary schools.
