TEST 1

WHAT EDWARD JENNER DID?

1ST PIECE OF THE KEY

YOU WERE RIGHT! THE FIRST PIECE OF THE KEY IS YOURS

SCIENTIFIC METHOD

Now, let´s relate Edward Jenner and his vaccine with the scientific method. It has different stages:

4-EXPERIMENTATION OR TESTING

1-RESEARCH/OBSERVATION

5-CONCLUSION

2-QUESTION

3-HYPOTHESIS

6- RESULTS

RESEARCH/OBSERVATION

Jenner observed that women who worked as milkers with cows, contracted cowpox and were immune to smallpox.

were they similar?

TEST 2

With which disease was it said that people were immune to smallpox?

2ND PIECE OF THE KEY

WELL DONE!! YOU WERE RIGHT, THE SECOND PIECE OF THE KEY IS YOURS NOW

QUESTION

Edward made himself this question:
Why people who contract cowpox are immune to smallpox?

TEST 3

WHICH WAS THE QUESTION THAT JENNER MADE TO HIMSELF?

3RD PIECE OF THE KEY

YOU ARE REALLY GOOD AT THIS GAME!! THE THIRD PIECE OF THE KEY IS YOURS NOW, THERE´S ONLY TWO TESTS LEFT

HYPOTHESIS

Jenner realized that cow milkers suffered from cowpox, a disease that causes minor symptoms in humans than the smallpox, and that they were resistant to human smallpox infection, because they did not suffer from the disease so they were immune.

EXPERIMENTAL TESTING

Jenner took a sample from the lesions of one of the infected women and infected James Phipps, an 8 year old boy.Edward Jenner did 2 incisions in Phipps´arm The boy started to have symptoms but he was well soon.

TEST 4

How many incisions did Jenner put on James Phipps?

4TH PIECE OF THE KEY

YOU´RE RIGHT!! THERE´S ONLY ONE TEST LEFT, YOU CAN DO IT! THE FOURTH PIECE OF THE KEY IS YOURS NOW

CONCLUSION

Edward Jenner confirmed his evidence. He discovered that people who contract cowpox are immune to smallpox

RESULTS

Jenner was right, so he made the first vaccine. The smallpox vaccine, to eliminate its virulence (the ability of a pathogen to cause damage).

TEST 5, LAST ONE

Was Jenner right with all his investigation?

LAST PIECE OF THE KEY

Join all the pieces to make the key. Then, open the treasure.

OPEN THE TREASURE!!

YOU FOUND THE SMALLPOX VACCINE!
