In this genially im going to explain you how edward jenner created the first vaccine
First of all, what is smallpox?
Smallpox was a very deadly virus that affected almost all the world over the years. Some symphthons and signs are:High fever
Head and body aches
Sometimes vomiting And many more!
What are vaccines?
The Toxiod vaccine use the toxn of the pathogen
Vaccines are suspended or weakened versions of a pathogen.
In transgenic vaccines, we modify genetically the pathogen
It makes our body react and start creating antibodies.
The subunit vaccine uses a small part of the pathogen In inactivated vaccines, we kill the pathogen before using the vaccine
The attenuated vaccine is when the pathogen is weakened
1st step.
- Edward saw that milkers and shepherds weren't affected by the smallpox
- Edward started to think why they aren't affected by the disease
-
He knew that those woman had blisters on their hands due to the cowpox virus when they were milking cows. So he though that maybe getting the cowpox virus, you couldn't be affected by the smallpox, because they were similar.
2nd step
3rd step
He grabbed a sample of cowpox, then he injected it on James Phipps a 8 year old boy, he waited some months and injected the smallpox, after some days he saw that James didn't get infected. He did it with more patients and the result was the same
4th and 5th Step
He saw that the results of all patients were the same, after he injected the cowpox, the patients were inmune to the smallpox virus, he presented the results to the Royal Society, but it was rejected, so he kept working and finally was accepted.
6th Step
He finally proved to the world, that cowpox could make you inmune to the smallpox, so he shared this information to the world, reducing the mortality of the virus, but not after many many years later the smallpox was erradicated
