1. What does this diet consist of ?

Lacto-ovo vegetarianism is a diet that excludes meat and fish. But, unlike more restrictive diets such as vegetarianism, it includes eggs and dairy products — that is, milk and its derivatives, such as cheese and butter — and plant foods such as cereals, legumes, mushrooms, fruits, vegetables, etc.

The reasons why people adopt a lacto-ovo-vegetarian diet are: to reduce the intake of animal products for ethical, environmental or health reasons.

2. Nutritional contribution and deficiences

Next

Recent research shows that a well-planned and balanced ovo vegetarian diet can have the following health benefits:
-Helps prevent type 2 diabetes. - May reduce the risk of gallstones. - Reduces the risk of certain types of cancer. - Helps you lose weight.

3. Advanteges and disanvanteges

We thought it was appropriate to put the advantages in the previous section, so here we will talk about the disadvantages.

Although a vegetarian diet offers many health benefits, proper planning is essential to prevent adverse health effects.

A vegetarian diet may be nutritionally adequate, but special attention should be paid to the intake of iron, protein, zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids. Dietary supplements may be recommended if sources of these nutrients are lacking.

There is a risk of nutritional deficiencies if food intake is not properly planned and needs for protein, iron, calcium, vitamin B12 and omega-3 are met. A lack of vitamin B12 can lead to neurological problems and anemia. It may take more effort to get enough complete protein, as animal sources are excluded from the diet.

5. Opinion

From our point of view, we like this diet and find it more affordable and easier to carry because it doesn´t have many restrictions as other complete vegetarian diets. We would not rule out practicing it in the future in case we enter a subsistence crisis and we are running out of animals to eat, otherwise we would not practice it because we could possibly need food supplements to provide the nutrients possibly absent in this diet
