Lysosome

One of the main functions of a lysosome is to remove wastes from the cell by engulfing and digesting materials.

18 May 2023. Lysosome, Science Facts, https://www.sciencefacts.net/lysosome.html. Accessed 14 Dec. 2023.

The lysosome is comparable to the trash cans within our amusement park which are used in order to keep the park clean for our guests!

Buzzfeed. 12 Sept. 2016. 7 Things Your Company Can Learn From Disney Trash Cans, Trashcans Unlimited, https://trashcansunlimited.com/blog/-7-things-your-company-can-learn-from-disney-trash-cans/. Accessed 14 Dec. 2023.

Mitochondrion

The mitochondrion produces the necessary energy needed by the cell through using the Citric Acid Cycle and the Electron Transport Chain to produce energy in the form of ATP.

Markgraf, Bert. 30 July 2019. Mitochondria: Definition, Structure & Function (with Diagram), Sciencing, https://sciencing.com/mitochondria-definition-structure-function-with-diagram-13717287.html. Accessed 14 Dec. 2023.

The mitochondrion is similar to what we use to power our entire amusement park: solar energy! Our park uses modern technology to harvest renewable energy that powers each and every attraction within our park.

4 Apr. 2022. Walt Disney World Doubling Solar Energy Resources With Two New Solar Arrays in Central Florida, WDW News Today, https://wdwnt.com/2022/04/walt-disney-world-doubling-solar-energy-resources-with-two-new-solar-arrays-in-central-florida/.

Golgi Apparatus

The Golgi Apparatus has the function of modifying, packaging and transporting proteins to a specific target.

Golgi Apparatus. Britannica, Encyclopædia Britannica, https://www.britannica.com/science/Golgi-apparatus#/media/1/238044/114953. Accessed 14 Dec. 2023.

The Golgi Apparatus is comparable to our amazing rollercoaster attractions that transport our guests on a track that loops around and drops them right back off at the end where they can then visit a different attraction.

Endoplasmic Reticulum (Smooth and Rough)

The Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) works in a cell by accepting mRNA from the nucleus and allowing for protein synthesis by a ribosome. Smooth ER differs by using lipoproteins to synthesize lipids. The protein from Rough ER can then be transported throughout the ER and exit to enter the Golgi Apparatus while the lipid from Smooth ER goes to the membranes of the cell.

Endoplasmic Reticulum. Britannica, Encyclopædia Britannica, https://www.britannica.com/science/endoplasmic-reticulum. Accessed 14 Dec. 2023.

The ER (smooth and rough) is similar to our Railroad attraction which transports guests from Guest Relations, and can drop the guests off to the fascinating attractions within our park!

Glover, Erin. 26 July 2017. Disneyland Railroad Through the Years, Disney Parks Blog, https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2017/07/disneyland-railroad-through-the-years/. Accessed 14 Dec. 2023.

Ribosome

The ribosome functions by reading an mRNA sequence and producing corresponding amino acids which then eventually make up a protein.

Structure of a Ribosome. Interaction of a ribosome with mRNA. 4 Apr. 2019. Ribosomes - The Protein Builders of a Cell, ThoughtCo., https://www.thoughtco.com/ribosomes-meaning-373363. Accessed 14 Dec. 2023.

Our restaurants are similar to ribosomes since our efficient, skillful employees use instructions based on our guests' orders to cook fresh and tasty food!

Accessed 14 Dec. 2023.

Nucleus

The nucleus has the role of containing all of the genetic information within a cell as well as the instructions for cellular processes including transcription and translation.

Figure 4.8.1. 4.8: Eukaryotic Cells - The Nucleus and Ribosomes, LibreTexts. Accessed 14 Dec. 2023.

Our amazing Guest Relation Services Office is similar to the functions of the nucleus since our employees here contain all of the information about the amusement park that can be passed on to our guests to influence the quality of their experience!

Plasma Membrane

The plasma membrane in an animal cell works by controlling which materials can flow in and out of the cell. This helps regulate and protect the organelles within the cell.

The plasma membrane is like our Entrance and Exit gates which are operated by employees who carefully monitor guests who enter and exit our park. This helps encourage a safe environment within the park for all of our guests. *Click the other images on our map to explore more features in the park!*

Organelleland

Welcome to Organelle land! Our amusement park contains all kinds of attractions and services similar to the organelles within animal cells. With amazing employees, a clean environment, fun attractions, an amazing transport system, and terrific restaurants, Organelleland has a stable internal environment that provides its guests with a thrilling sense of homeostasis. Explore and interact with our various attractions to plan for an unforgettable trip to Organelleland!

Peroxisome

Perixosomes work in a cell by breaking down reactive oxidation species as well as fatty acids in order to prevent cellular damage

Peroxisomes, LibreTexts Biology, https://bio.libretexts.org/Bookshelves/Microbiology/Microbiology_%28Boundless%29/04%3A_Cell_Structure_of_Bacteria_Archaea_and_Eukaryotes/4.08%3A_Other_Eukaryotic_Components/4.8A%3A_Peroxisomes. Accessed 14 Dec. 2023.

The peroxisome is similar to our custodians who ensure to keep the park clean by throwing away any trash. This helps keep our park extremely clean at all times!
