CHRISTMAS IN
In Alaska, Christmas lasts until January 6, but the most important day is, of course, December 25. That day families meet to have a traditional turkey dinner and Christmas cookies for dessert. Most popular Christmas carols are Gristuusaaq suu´uq (Christ is born) and Mnogaya leta (God allows you many tears).
When dinner is over, the children usually go out to tour the neighborhood houses singing and knocking on the door to receive gifts and candy, wearing a paper star pinned to their clothes. Another Eskimo costum is Sink tuck. Sink tuck is a festival with dances and music to celebrate the arrival of winter and the advent of a new year. In many towns it is customary to do it outdoors.
