The telegraph

1837

The first commercial telegraph was invented by Cooke and Wheatstone on June 1837. It was demonstrated on the London and Birmingham Railway in July of the same year. In 1839, a five-wire system was installed to provide signalling over a distance of 21 km.

Phonograph

1877

Thomas edison invented the first phonograph to be able to record and play sounds, He announced his invention of the first phonograph on November 21, 1877. Thanks to Edison's invention, people could leave and receive audio messages or record and play music.

Note that the dates don't mach, that's becouse Edison patented his design later of when he invented it.

Dynamite

1867

Dynamite was invented in 1867 by the famously known inventor Alfred Nobel. It allowed for a much more safe way to use explosives, and it lowered the risk of accidental detonation. It was invented with the propuse of helping miners and builders.

Gas Street Lamp

1807

While the gas lamp might haven't been invented in 1807, the first ever gas street lamp in London was inaugured the 28th of January 1807. (photo bellow) After that, gas street lamps were put all around Londonn and all around the world until the invention of modern street lights.

The lamp is located in in Pall Mall, London.

The electromagnet

1825

a danish scientist discovered that electric currents create magnetic fields in 1820. Later, the british scientist William Sturgeon invented the electromagnet in 1824. Thanks to this invention, we could control and moderate magnetic attractions and use them in machines.

The electric generator

1831

The operating principle of electromagnetic generators was discovered by Michael Faraday. He built the first electromagnetic generator, called the Faraday disk, that used a copper disc rotating between the poles of a horseshoe magnet to produce a small DC voltage.

Watt's Steam Engine

Newcomen's Steam Engine

James Watt improved Newcomen's design in 1769, the major improvement was that Newcomen's design needed to cool down each time the piston was pushed up, Watt improved this by adding another cylinder, so that the first one could be heated up at the same time the secon one was cooling down

Thomas Neswcomen invented his steam engine in the 1710s, and it worked by heating water and pouring the steam into a cilinder, which pushed a piston up becouse of the atmospheric pressure

A French inventor, Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot, built the first working self-propelled steam-working mechanical vehicle in 1769. Steam-powered cars were less dangerous than gas based ones.

Car

George Stephenson invented a lot of steam powered locomotives, he started building them in 1814 and he invented them mainly because carbon powered locomotives weren't fast enough.

Train

The inventor Marquis de Jouffroy d'Abbans, created the first steam-powered boat in 1783. It was called the Pyroscaphe. It was invented to improve commerce and human transportation, especially along rivers.

Typewriter

1868

The first typewriter to be commercially successful was patented in 1868 by American inventors Christopher Latham Sholes, Frank Haven Hall, Carlos Glidden and Samuel W. Soule in Wisconsin. Thanks to this invention people now could write much faster and with much more precission, also. this typewriter was the one who settled the 'QWERTY' disposition of keys.

Thelephone

1876

Alexander Graham Bell was the first to have a patent for the electric telephone in March 1876. It was the first ever telephone to transmit sound clearly. Thanks to Bell's invention, we now have modern telephones and we can comunicate freely with anyone.

Cotton Gin

1793

A cotton gin is a machine to quickly separate cotton fibers from their seeds. This design below was from the inventor Eli Whitney.
