"Mirror, kind mirror, tell me, in the kingdom, whO is the fairest of them all ?"
The Evil Queen is Snow White's stepmother. Her personality is the opposite of that of her stepdaughter. She is cruel, cold and cocky, she is jealous of the young girl's beauty and tries to kill her to regain her status as the most beautiful woman. To achieve this, she does not hesitate to use the worst means, such as disguising herself as a witch to trick Snow White into eating a poisoned apple to kill her.
The Queen of Hearts (1951)
"LET'S CUT OFF THEIR HEADS!
The Queen of Hearts is described as hot-tempered, authoritarian, tyrannical and obsessed with perfection. She gives absurd orders and demands immediate obedience. Her tyrannical and unpredictable character adds tension to Wonderland. She hates Alice, and when Alice arrives in the kingdom and inadvertently humiliates the sovereign, the Queen of Hearts becomes obsessed with the idea of beheading the young girl. There's no good reason for this, but perhaps past events or experiences have shaped her behaviour. Her plan is to gather her Guards in every part of the Kingdom, turn them into Arches and then pull off her Royal Coup.
The Red Queen (2010)
"You're right Staye, it's better to inspire fear than love."
The Red Queen is presented as far more cruel and sadistic than the Queen of Hearts. In the 2010,s film, she has killed just about everyone for any reason, sometimes even just for her pleasure.
The Red Queen with her enormous head, her hot-tempered temper and her habit of having everyone's head chopped off, she wreaks havoc on her subjects. She has a rival sister, the Queen White, who has a very different and opposite personality. This reveals a certain depth to the character.
Maleficient (1959)
“you poor, simple fools; thinking that you could defeat me! Me!? the Mistress of All Evil!”
In the original 1959 film Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent is presented as a wicked witch without much depth.
When she learns that King Stefan has taken his wings to accede to the throne, she decides to go to the little princess's christening to take her revenge ; Maleficent is thirsty for revenge.Taking offense at not being invited to the christening of Princess Aurora by Stefan and his wife, Queen Leah, Maleficent curses the princess to die by pricking her finger on a spinning wheel's spindle before the sun sets on her 16th birthday. She is ruthless, dark, devious, and will do whatever it takes to achieve her evil goals. Maleficent has horns, a black cape and a magic staff. Maleficent and Aurora meet and get to know each other and Maleficent discovers that Aurora could bring peace and tries to remove her spell without success.
Maleficient (2014)
"i hate you, ugly"
Maleficent in the 2014's movie is portrayed as a powerful fairy endowed with large wings. She holds a strong grudge against King Stefan (Aurora's father) for his betrayal and has mutilated his wings to satisfy her ambition. Her plan is to take revenge on the King, but not on Aurora, who is innocent in her own personal story. She wants to protect Aurora by putting her into a deep sleep in order to give her a better destiny than the one Maleficent herself had. In contrast to the portrayal of Maleficent in the 1959 film, the character of Maleficent is more complex, with a more developed personal history that shows her motivations as a wicked woman and her transformation.
Cruella De Vil (1961)
"If you can dream it, I can find it for you."
Cruella De Vil is the main antagonist of 101 Dalmatians, released in 1961.Cruella De Vil is a wealthy heiress with an obsession for fashion. In the cartoon, Cruella is blinded by her hatred of Dalmatians and will do anything to turn them into fashion accessories. Cruella is a famous fashion designer who owns the "House of Devil" fashion house. With her body-hugging black dress, red pumps and long gloves, and cigarette smoker always in hand, her signature 1940's inspired look and her demonic character have made her an iconic character. She has for project to use the skins of 99 Dalmatian puppies to create a fur coat. Cruella is not a schemer and has no powers.. She'll do anything to get what she wants.
Cruella De Vil (2021)
"I like to say that 'normal' is the cruelest insult of all, and at least I never get that."
In the 2021 film, we learn another facet of Cruella De Vil personality by delving into her youth, sometimes unravelling the mysteries of her madness. She is afraid of Dalmatians because of her mother's death at the hands of these dogs under the orders of Baroness Von Hellman (the Baroness), the real villain. Unlike the cartoon, Cruella is not greedy for canine fur, and even adopts some at the end of the film. In the film we discover the name she had before becoming Cruella ; Estella, a shy child who was teased at school, she had already a pronounced intelligence from an early age and a penchant for fashion As an adult, the young woman is described as gentle, shy and pugnacious. These were traits she decided to erase in order to carve out a place for herself in the fashion industry. Her sole aim is to avenge her mother's death and become an influential designer in the heart of 1970s London. So she creates a character with a penchant for grand theatrics and extravagant outfits with a rock, punk and glamour edge to compete with the Baroness.
Mother Gothel (2010)
"Rapunzel, look into this mirror... Do you know what I see ?I see a beautiful young woman, full of confidence and energy...Oh, you're here too!"
Gothel is the main antagonist in the film Rapunzel. She is selfish, determined and manipulative. She kidnapped Rapunzel (who was the Princess of a Kingdom) when she was a baby and has kept her imprisoned in a tower ever since. Mother Gothel hates Flynn Rider, who is Rapunzel's Prince Charming, and wants to get rid of him so that she can have Rapunzel all to herself. She shows no real love for Rapunzel and only cares about her own interests. Mother Gothel's plan is to keep Rapunzel forever in order to keep the young woman's powers exclusively for herself.
