Ampcross
- Two hearing aids with CROS ability
- Stimulating both ears while also transmitting sound from the poorer side to the better ear
- Also called a TriCROS
- Tricking the hearing aids using the "telephone" program
Why use an AmpCROS device?
Sound therapy for bothersome tinnitus in the poorer ear
- Helps facilitate habituation
- Enriching environmental noise can decrease perceived strength of internal noise
- Reduction in neural hyperactivity associated with tinntius
Why use an AmpCROS device?
Auditory nerve deprivation
- Stimulates auditory pathways, especially for patients with CI interest
- Increased time without sound has negative effect on auditory processing
Why use an AmpCROS device?
4- Fluctuating hearing loss (ex. Meniere's)
3- Sound Awareness
5- Binaural summation
6- Long term binaural user (can trial CROS benefit)
(Better ear may perform better)
case
68 year old male. Hx: sudden hearing loss April 2023, 3 dex injections, hearing now stable
Bothersome tinnitus, mild cognitive impairment & limited health literacy, no previous hearing aid use
Fit with Signia Pure Charge and Go 3AX on 11/17/23Extensive counseling on CROS program

Follow up
Not using CROS program, minor improvements in ringing, still has significant hearing difficulty Seen for 2 follow ups, then re-fit 12/18/23 with a traditional BiCROS
Limitations
- Patient has to switch to the telephone program manually every day
- Lose advanced features in telephone mode
- Does not improve localization
