Modal Auxiliary Verbs or Referents

There are several ways to indicate modality to express yourself in English. The best way is through modals. The main modal verbs in English are, in alphabetical order: can, could, may, might, must, shall, should, will, and would.

Modal verbs do not have conjugation (you will not find forms with -ed or -ing endings) or infinitive and like all auxiliary verbs they accompany another verb but with the particularity that in their case they are never used alone and only serve to express an attitude regarding what you want to communicate, such as: ability, possibility, necessity or obligation, among others.
