Traditional music

Scotland

The Scottish folk songs often heard in pubs and ceilidhs (traditional Scottish folk evenings) are inspired by Scotland's rich history. Many of them refer to the Jacobite risings of the 18th century and, in particular, to "Gentle Prince Charles" (e.g., Hey Johnnie Cope, Skye Boat Song and Will Ye No Come Back Again), while others are about the Covenanters and the Highland Clearances.
