Lenses

Introduction

Progressive lenses are multifocal lenses that allows the wearer to see from distance, intermediate, and near seamlessly without the visible lines and image jumps that older models of multifocals come with such as bifocals and trifocals. Progressives lenses are considered the new generation of lenses, they almost seem futuristic being able to allow the wearer to see from three different powers all in one lens. Throughout the span of Progressive lenses being available, many companies have taken the opportunity to take the progressive lens design and tailor it there liking, Essilor and Zeiss are prime examples. Progressives come in many variations, and we’re going to take a look at some of these variations from those two major lens companies, Essilor and Zeiss to see what they have to offer.

Zeiss

In this day and age technology is everywhere and people are constantly looking at their phones, computers and smartwatches. In realizing this, Zeiss has come up with a progressive lens design that allows the wearer to focus on screens while being able to see the world around them using a wider corridor, a smoother softer peripheral view and allowing an almost instantaneous transition from the digital screens to real life.

SMARTLIFE SUPERB

Introducing the Zeiss SmartLife Progressive Superb. Traditional progressive lenses have very narrow corridors which limits full vision and diminishes the wearer’s peripheral vision. With Zeiss’s SmartLife Superb lenses, it allows for a much more smoother transition and allows the wearer a softer view of the peripheral vision with a less perceived blur. This is all possible thanks to Zeiss’s SmartLife technology. This lens is completely customizable and it comes in a number of different lens materials such as Plastic/CR-39, Trivex and Glass. Overall SmartLife lenses is truly a unique creation, who wouldn’t want lenses that can fit our modern day activities?

Introdcuing...

Essilor

Play

The year is 1972 in Paris, France where two optical companies (Essel and Silor) decided to merge together to create what we know now today as Essilor, one of the most well respected lens manufactures of our generation. Fast foward to 2023 and Essilor has became a staple of lens manufacturing, more specifically porgressive lenses, so let’s take a look at a few.

Essilor

If you’ve ever been fit with progressive lenses, you know that it’s a bit of an adjustment and training is a necessity to correctly wear these lenses. Although it's a bit of a change, with time these lenses become a lot more comfortable to wear so, with that being said, I’d like to introduce Essilor’s most comfortable progressive lenses...

Varilux X Series

The Varilux X Series was manufactured to focus primarily on it’s intermediate and close up viewing. Thanks to Essilor’s XTEND technology, the X series gives the wearer an extended intermediate and close up range which allows clearer vision at arms length away and up close. Along with the XTEND technology, the X series is also debuting it’s SYNCRONEYES technology which blends prescription data from each eye and applies it to each lens which in turn allows the eyes to work together a lot more seamlessly. The X series has also been made to allow instant sharp vision, stable vision even when walking and a wider field of vision,

Essilor's

PROGRESSIVE

PHYSIO W3+

Essilor’s Varilux Physio W3+ is a very unique lens. What makes the Physio W3+ so unique is it’s ability to seamlessly utilize a person’s prescription and mold it into a lens which allows the two separate lenses/prescriptions to work in sync. This results in smooth transitions through the three different powers despite the drastic difference in prescriptions that some people may have. This is done by using Essilor’s Synchroneyes technology, the same technology used in the Varilux X series lens. The Physio W3+ also gives the wearer a larger reading area, eliminates distortion and blurriness and sharper vision with the use of the W.A.V.E. 2.0 technology. All in all, the Physion W3+ is a great lens especially for those with unique prescriptions.

Essilor also has names for the different lens materials, Trivex is Trexa, Polycarbonate is airwear and, Hi-Index is Thin&Lite. Overall, Essilor has a great selection of coatings and treatments to fit the wearer's needs and wants.

IN CLOSING...

This brings an end to a very interesting and informative journey. We’ve learned what exactly are progressives, learned about three major companies that have taken the progressive lens anatomy and shaped it to there own, creating one of a kind designs and learned about some of the technology behind them. We covered lens treatments and coatings and overall gave us a better idea on what some of these companies have to offer. Despite learning all of this, there are still so many more options that I haven’t covered and even more companies working on making some impressive unique designs so the question remains…What progressives will you choose?

THANKS!
