Mary Shelley (1797–1851), was a British writer, essayist and philosopher. At 16, he declared himself to Percy Bysshe Shelley, who was already married at the time, and the two fled to Europe. At 18 he wrote what is considered the first gothic science fiction novel, Frankenstein published in 1818.
