Nolan Ryan is a former American baseball player. He is considered by many, including myself, to be the best pitcher in MLB history. He has tons of achievments and holds many records, such as making it into the Hall of Fame, holding the record for the most career strikeouts, the record for the most career no hitters, having the longest career in MLB history and much more. I am going to go over his childhood and baseball career which led to all of his amazing achievments.

Life growing up
Lynn Nolan Ryan Jr. was born on January 31, 1947 in Refugio, Texas. He grew up in Alvin, Texas where his family moved when he was very young. When Ryan was 7 years old he remebers going to Alvin Hardware to get his first baseball glove. This was the beginning of Ryan's lifelong love for baseball. When Nolan got to highschool he was thriving in sports, but he was not doing as well academically. This resulted in teachers calling him stupid and wanting to fail him. As his highschool career progressed he started playing more and more baseball. He started to perfect his pitches and develop into a star.

During Ryan's Junior year of highschool he attracted the notice of a scout for the New York Mets, Red Murff. Murff said in his report on Ryan, "This skinny junior has the best arm I've ever seen." Ryan graduated from Alvin highschool in 1965 after helping his team get to the state finals, and immideatly signed as a player with the New York Mets. His first asignment was with the Mets minor league team in Marion, Virginia, in which he started in 1966. Ryan worked his way up to the major leauges, becoming a pitcher for the Mets' major league team in 1968.

ACHIEVEMENTS
Nolan Ryan was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999. He holds the MLB record for the most career strikeouts with 5,714. He also holds a record for the most no-hitters with 7. These are only a few of his incredible achievements. He has the longest career of any MLB player. He played for 27 years on 4 different teams including the New York Mets, Los Angeles Angels, Houston Astros, and the Texas Rangers. He retired from the Texas Rangers in 1993.
