L'arte gotica

QUANDO NASCE E DA COSA E' CARATTERIZZATA?

Lo stile gotico è un linguaggio artistico nato nel Nord della Francia nella metà del XII secolo e successivamente nel medioevo si differenziò in Europa. Le sue caratteristiche distintive includono l'uso di archi a sesto acuto, di facciate slanciate ricche di decorazioni e da enormi vetrate.

romanica VS gotica

Invece di trovarsi solo sulle pareti, nell'abside o sulle volte vengono creati i polittici, composizione in legno posta dietro l'altare.

Mentre la chiesa romanica ispira senso di massa e penombra, quella gotica appare slanciata e leggera. Si passa dall'arco a tutto sesto a quello a sesto acuto con le volte ogivali. Le finestre monofore diventano chiuse da vetrate. Oltre ai contrafforti si aggiungono gli archi rampanti.

Le sculture da robuste con un panneggio schiacciato assumono pose sinuose, corpi allungati e volti espressivi.

Era di orgini pugliesi e si è formato grazie alla cultura classica promossa da Federico II. Una probabile ipotesi vede l’artista trasferirsi in Toscana, dove svolse prevalentemente la sua professione.

Notre Dame di Parigi

E' dedicata alla madonna, originariamente aveva forme romaniche per l'aspetto massiccio. Il restauro dopo la Rivoluzione Francese fu affidato a Eugene VioletLe Duc che realizzò la guglia centrale e i gargoyl. Nel 2019 con l'incendio si bruciò tutta la sruttura lignea del tetto e la guglia ottocentesca.

• La Saint-Chappelle è un reliquario monumentale, un aula unica con 4 campate e abside chiusa da volta a ombrello. Ci sono 15 vetrate che raccontano la storia dell'umanità dalla Genesi all'Apocalisse. C'è il passaggio al gotico radiante, è sottolineate inoltre la verticalità della cappella.

La cattedrale di Reims

Costruita tra il XIII e il XIV secolo in Francia, è famosa per la sua maestosa facciata decorata con sculture dettagliate e tre portali principali, ognuno dedicato a diverse figure bibliche.Le guglie slanciate e gli archi a sesto acuto dominano l'architettura esterna, mentre l'interno presenta una struttura a volta a crociera e imponenti vetrate colorate, tra cui il celebre rosone occidentale. La Cattedrale di Reims è stata inserita nella lista dei Patrimoni dell'Umanità dell'UNESCO ed è considerata uno dei capolavori dell'arte gotica, simbolo di grandiosità e spiritualità.

La navata è alta 43,35 cm e le due guglie arrivano a 156 m. La pianta è a croce immissa, le navate hanno il triforio e cleristolo. Infine il coro ha il deambulatorio e le cappelle radiali.

La città fu bombardata nel 1942-45, crollarono le vetrate del XIX secolo e numerose volte della copertura.Il restauro però reinterpetò il tutto in chiave contemporanea

Influenza bizantina e romanica: spesso si mescolavano elementi gotici con forme romaniche e motivi bizantini, creando uno stile unico.Fiale e Guglie erano più sobrie e meno esagerate rispetto a quelle francesiUtilizzo del marmo: In molte costruzioni gotiche italiane, veniva utilizzato il marmo per decorare e enfatizzare gli elementi architettonici. Nel 1140 l’abate Suger avviò il rifacimento del coro della Chiesa abbaziale di Saint-Denis, vicino a Parigi, che sarebbe diventato il prototipo dell’architettura gotica.

Cattedrale di Siviglia

Sorge su una moschea, di cui conserva il Patio de Los Naranjos e la Giralda. C'è un eccesso decorativo che si vede anche nel Retablo Major. Nel 500 vengono aggiunte 2 sagrestie rinascimentali , tra 600 e 700 sono aggiunte le cappelle barocche e infine nell'800 elementi neoclassici.

Tra il 1305 circa e il 1310 Giotto, dipinge la Maestà di Ognissanti, una pala d’altare destinata a una cappella laterale della Chiesa di Ognissanti di Firenze

• Il pollittico Stefaneschi è stato realizzato per l'altare maggiore della Basilica di S. Pietro. L'opera è bifacciale, sul retro è raffigurato Cristo in maestà, il martirio di S. Pietro e la decollazione di S. Paolo. La tridimensionalità è dovuta al fondo d'oro e luminoso.

Il pulpito del Duomo di Siena ha una pianta ottagonale, le statue in rilievo creano un fregio continuo. E' carico di pathos e dinamismo, l'anatomia di Cristo lo mostra sofferente.

E' composta da 2 vasche poligonali che si concludono in alto da uno stelo con una conca in bronzo. Ci sono 29 colonnine, 24 statue di uomini illustri di Perugia e in bassorilievo i lavori agricoli, episodi biblici, animali simbolici, alleggorie. Le figure sono proporzionate e armoniche.
