Context

On the 7th of October 2023, the israeli-palestinian conflict reemmerged and made the headlines of newspaper all over the world. A conflict that's been going on for eons and is a real subject debated worldwide. How does the conflict between Israel and Palestine affect geographically and diplomatically the whole world ?

1. The back-story of the conflict

The birth of a nation

The conflict opposing Israel with Palestine goes way before the attack directed by the Hamas. The episode of the 7th of October is a direct result of all the events that took place before and how the relation between the two countries evolved troughout the years.

  • The rise of antisemitism all over the world leads to the will of creating a jewish state.
  • Plan on establishing this new territory on the palestinian ground and division of the territory between Israeli and Palestinians based on a map submited by the UN.

The year 1948 announced the beginning of a damaging relation and the multiplication of war on the territory.

  • Israel emerged victorious
  • Establishment of Israel and palestinians population displacement

1973: Yom Kippur War

  • Egypt and Syria VS Israel
  • The attack took place during Yom Kippur, a jewish celebration
  • Ending with a ceasefire and first conversation ever between Israel and Arab countries to find peace

1967: The Six-Day War

  • Israel VS neighbouring arab countries
  • Israel comes out victorious (again)
  • Enlargment of the Israeli territory and beginning of colonisation

Observing the increasing impact of the conflict, peace was needed and debate started.

1993: Oslo Accords

  • Signed by Palestine and Israel
  • Hope of a real peace and an end of the conflict
  • Hopes crashed with the murder of Yitzhak Rabin

1978: Camp David Accords

  • Peace found between Egypt, Syria and Israel
  • Israel give back lands to both countries.

Many countries from the Arab World are intervening into the conflict but their perception and opinion on it differ.

Peaceful countries :

  • Saudi Arabia
  • Morocco
  • United Arab Emirates
  • Sudan

LEBANON:

  • Play a huge role in the conflict
  • Host country for Palestinian refugees
  • Rear base for the Palestine Liberation Organization
  • Attack against Israel after the event of the 7th of October

Countries such as Iran who are fully supporting the Hamas attack and claiming that it represent palestinian self defense action.

Mediator countries:

  • Egypt
  • Turkey

Western Countries

The impact of the conflict expand to the whole wide world and countries show their opinions on the conflict, and even take action into it.

United States of America

  • Involved in the conflict to help find peace
  • Denounce the Hamas' attack
  • Political leaders (Joe Biden) show a huge support to Israel

European Union

  • Consencus on denouncing the Hamas' attack
  • Divided on providing help to Palestine and population in Gaza.

Other countries all over the world don't hesitate to express their opinion on the situation such as India and Argentina who denounce the Hamas' attack.

3. Impact on territories all over the world

Heavy Bombing on the territory which affect the acces of certain ressources (water, electricity, food, education, ...)

Many actions to provide relief and help for the most affected population due to the conflict.

Protest all over the world for many reason ( support Israel, support Palestine, call for a ceasefire and peace)

Increase of refugees due to the conflict points out the role that developped countries can play in hosting those refugees.

Conclusion

Eventhough, the truce allowed to ease the conflict and help population, finding peace is a real and unsure issue concerning this conflict.
