Platão

Platão foi um filsósofo e matemático do período clássico da Grécia Antiga. Foi um autor de diversos diálogos filosóficos e fundador da Academia em Atenas (a primeira instituição de educação superior do mundo ocidental) Teve como seu mentor, Sócrates, e como seu pupilo, Aristóteles. Platão ajudou a construir os alicerces da filosofia natural, da ciência e da filosofia ocidental.

Os sólidos platónicos designam-se pelos sólidos convexos, cujas arestas formam polígonos regulares congruentes. Além disso, é ainda necessário, que cada vértice possua o mesmo número de faces, o que equivale a afirmar que os ângulos deverão ser congruentes.

A fórmula de Euler, cujo nome é uma homenagem a Leonhard Euler. Os sólidos de Platão respeitam a fórmula de Euler, que relaciona o número de vértices, faces e arestas pela fórmula V + F = A + 2.

O que são poliedros?

Em geometria elementar, o poliedro é um sólido em três dimensões com faces poligonais planas, bordas retas (arestas) e cantos ou vértices acentuados. Cubos e pirâmide são exemplos de poliedros
