The Titanic, once considered unsinkable, experienced its tragic fate on its maiden voyage in 1912. Departing Southampton on 10 April, the luxurious ship carried a diverse group of passengers, from promising immigrants to members of high society. Unfortunately, on the night of April 14, the Titanic struck an iceberg, resulting in its disappearance.

The disaster killed more than 1,500 people and revealed flaws in the ship’s design and safety measures. Subsequently, marine safety standards have progressed. The wreck of the Titanic, discovered by Dr Robert Ballard in 1985, provided a better understanding of the events that led to its sinking.
