MY TRIP TO THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

In May 2015

In 2015 I traveled to the Dominican Republic on vacation with my family. We decided to visit Puntacana, located in the east of the country. The region is known for its beaches with clean waters, and that was one of the reasons we visited the country. I loved it, especially the hot water pools. This was my first and only trip by plane, and I hope to enjoy this incredible experience again one day.

Examples of my work

Listening
Writing
Speaking
Reading

Writing was where I achieved the best results during the first term. I did well in both writing text and grammar test. I think I can improve, especially in the length of my texts, as I usually exceed the word limit proposed by the teacher and end up being penalised. I think I need to enrich my vocabulary in order to be able to use synonyms that show diversity.

This period, speaking was without a doubt my best skill. It's still hard to believe due to the difficulties I sometimes have in terms of posture, but I managed to calm my nerves and maintain eye contact with the audience. I think I should improve my pronunciation of certain more complex words.

Since I only had received my writing evaluation this term, I thought about giving a general overview of these two years and my progress in the subject in the various areas. Starting off with the past year, it was a year in which I felt comfortable, I was never an excellent student in this subject but I had the foundations that allowed me to have good results. Speaking was always the most difficult area for me but I think that throughout that year and into this year, I feel like iit was the area in which I evolved the most, even though I didn't like oral presentations and expressing myself in front of everyone, throughout the presentations I felt more comfortable and secure with what I was saying. I think that Reading was where I had the most difficulties, I felt that my text interpretation was good, but apparently I ended up having some difficulties, but I managed to get decent and good results. Listening I think was one of my best, and I think the fact that the lessons started being taught in English helped a lot in terms of recognising accents and pronouncing words. Finally, Writing was one of the areas where I felt most comfortable, I think I improved on last year, with a more diverse vocabulary and fewer grammatical errors. To conclude, I think I have evolved a lot as a student and especially as a person over these two years, I managed to overcome obstacles that were very difficult for me and, nowadays, I feel much more comfortable and capable of doing whatever I want.

In the second term, Reading was again the domain where I showed the worst results, but I was able to improve a little compared to the previous assessment sheet. This time, I improved my interpretation of the text, but I was still lacking in terms of vocabulary. So for the next term, I should pay special attention to synonyms and antonyms, as this is something that often comes up in this type of assessment.

Listening was one of the domainswhere I showed the best results. I feel that my mistakes were due to certain misunderstandings in terms of interpretation. Overall, I did well and I think that in order to improve I need to familiarise myself more and more with different types of accent, as they can sometimes cause misunderstandings of what is being said,

Audio: extensive reading: Moby Dick - TEAMS

In the first term, I expected better results. I started off very well in the first assessment but dropped considerably in the second, which meant that of all the areas, this was where I had the most difficulties. In order to improve my reading skills, I need to enrich my vocabulary, pay more attention and practice text interpretation.

Weekly Hashtag : #FutureSkills

In a rapidly envolving job market, workers can adapt and upskill in the field of artificial intelligence by enhancing their career prospects and by staying competitive and consistent in the world of labour. Workers should stay informed and learn how to maximize their skills more precisely, the ones related to artificial intelligence. They must also take advantage of online courses and participate in community conferences. The key to be efficient is to be always uptaded of the advances of AI and to be adaptable to any changes that may occur.

Through reading the novel Moby Dick, we learnt that revenge is not a solution because it makes those who pursue it blind. Captain Ahab's thirst for revenge and obsession led to a tragic end. Overall Moby DIck portrays the forces of nature by teaching us the destructive power of revenge and obsession, which leads us down endless and often tragic paths.

In Listening, I went down a little compared to last term, but I noticed that the main mistake wasn't in terms of understanding the accent, but in misunderstanding it, because I was in doubt between two very similar options and ended up switching. I think that paying attention to all the details mentioned in the audio will allow me to improve in this field.

During this term, I maintained the same level of writing, obtaining the exact same rating compared to the previous term, carrying out the weekly hastags with the exception of one. I've made a few grammatical mistakes, but I think what I need to improve in the future is reducing the number of words in my texts, because I can often use fewer words and diversify my vocabulary even more, because that's something that helps a lot.

In terms of Speaking, I only have the example of oral presentation as I am not a very participative student in class. I think my presentation was good, it could have gone better if I had been able to calm my nerves. I have to improve in terms of eye contact with the audience and, in this case, with the person I'm talking to

  • Listening - C1
  • Reading - B2
  • Spoken Interaction - C1
  • Spoken Production - C1
  • Writing - C1

In Writing, I more or less maintained the level I achieved last term, but I made more grammatical mistakes, which meant that I achieved a slightly lower result. In order to improve, I need to correct the way I conjugate certain words and respect the proposed word limit.
