IN CHARGE OF THE TITANIC

Thomas Andrews

Thomas Andrews was born on 7 February 1873 in Ireland. In 1908, he married Helen, and their daughter, Elizabeth, was born in 1910. The family lived in Belfast. Thomas Andrews worked for Harland and Wolff as a shipbuilder. In 1907, he began working on three ships: the Olympic, the Titanic, and the Britannic, three very large and luxurious ships. Andrews and his group of workers wanted to go on the maiden voyages of the ships in order to observe ship operations and spot any necessary improvements. So they traveled from Belfast to Southampton on Titanic for the beginning of her maiden voyage on 10 April 1912. On 14 April, when the Titanic sank due to its collision with an iceberg, Andrews tried to save as many people as possible but died along with more than 1,500 others, probably on the next day, in the Atlantic Ocean. His body was never recovered.

TITANIC, THE FILM / WRITE A SHORT DESCRIPTION OF THE EXTRACT

The Titanic was absolutely enormous! It was the hugest and the most luxurious ocean liner afloat. There were many passengers on board and a lot of people on the dock waving at each other. Everyone aboard the Titanic looked cheerful and eager to leave the port. Jack, the character played by Leonardo di Caprio, was probably the most excited. Nobody looked sorrowful about leaving, even though their journey was a long one and they would probably not come back soon.
