Define your travel style

Make a travel plan you love and defend it

We're planning a trip to the US but we need your help! There are so many ways to travel and things to do, we need your help deciding what kind of trip we should take. Let's research and compare the options and figure out which ones are your favorite

Types of travelers

Let's learn about different types of tourists with this video. What makes them different from each other?

find your travel style

Now take a personality quiz to find out which kind of traveler you are!

Buses

Traveling the United states

Car rental is getting more and more cost-prohibitive in the US, particularly in the summer months. In the off-season, you can still find deals of around $30 per day, but when demand is higher cars can be more like $150 per day. The further in advance you book, the better.

Domestic flights are excellent in the US. They are affordable, comfortable, and generally go on time. Although they’re usually more expensive than buses or trains, they’re be much faster if you’re travelling far.

Uber and Lyft run the market in the US, but there are plenty of other rideshare apps as well. This is our favorite way to get to and from airports and to get rides within larger cities. You can also get a regular taxi but they tend to be more expensive.

Buses are an easy and affordable way to get around the US. Your travel time will be longer, but buses are generally comfortable and safe, and you can easily book your journeys online.

This is the ultimate way to visit the States if you don’t plan on it being a city trip. If you’re heading to national parks, lakes, mountains, the coast, or the desert, having your own wheels (which doubles as accommodation and restaurant), can be cheaper and let you be more flexible in your itinerary.

Rental Cars

Let's research travel in the US to prepare for our trip!

The US probably has the best accommodation options of any country on earth. From beautiful cabin homes in the mountains to luxurious 5-star hotels, you’ll find it all here. Just know that your accommodation will be your largest expense since hotels and Airbnbs are not cheap in the USA.

Campervans

Taxis

Hotels

Some of the best places to stay in the US are Airbnbs. They generally have a kitchen, which means you can spend less money on food, and they’re usually more spacious than a hotel room. Expect to pay around $90-$200+/night for a decent Airbnb.

For a budget hotel or motel room, expect to pay at least $60 per night, and nicer hotels can be much more expensive. Generally, the hotels are clean and comfortable, but make sure you check the reviews before staying.

Flights

Hostels

Airbnbs

Getting around the US is simple, if a bit expensive. There are plenty of buses that connect all major cities and even towns around the country. On top of that, Uber and Lyft work pretty much everywhere and domestic flights are somewhat affordable.

Comparative adjectives can be used to express a difference between two things.

Comparatives

This trip was better than our trip to Canada last year

Today's tour was worse than yesterday's tour

What are comparative adjectives? How can we use them to talk about our favorite travel style?

There are two ways to form comparative adjectives :

  • By adding the suffix -er
  • By adding "more" before the adjective

more expensive more comfortable more crowded

smaller farther slower

less expensive less comfortabe less crowded

bigger closer faster

When to use which?

You can see similarities between the English comparative and the French compartive :

  • meilleur / better
  • pire / worse

  • plus cher / more expensive
  • moins cher / less expensive

Compare different types of travel

PROS & CONS Every kind of travel has its pros and cons. Some things are more expensive, but also more comfortable or convenient, while others are cheaper but more work or less relaxing. While you're comparing these phrases, think about what the pros and cons are for each one.

Let's compare travel styles to prepare for our trip

We need to compare all of these options to choose the best one for our trip but it looks like there are some repeats! Can you group the sentences that have the same meaning together?

Explain your preferences

FIND YOUR FAVORITE By comparing different options, you can find the best one for you. Do you prefer expensive, memorable experiences or cheap adventures? Would you rather visit lots of cities for a short time or spend more time in just one? Think about what your prorities are when you travel.

Which of the options that we've seen do you prefer and why?

Now that you've compared some of the travel options and thought about the pros and cons, it's time to make some choices. We asked 8 people what their travel preferences are. Can you guess why they choose the options they did?

Desctribe your style

discuss & debate

The teachers are planning a trip to the US, but they need your help. What kind of trip would you enjoy? Make a video describing what kind of trip you think the class should take, and then debate with the class.
