Course overview

This course is designed to develop the four core skills of language learning (speaking, listening, reading and writing). This is designed specifically for first-responders, related authorities and service providers dealing with SoTs to ensure effective communication and care in target language. Participants will be able to function in familiar, predictable situations at an A1 level (CEFR - Common European Framework of Reference) upon successful completion of both courses. Participants will be exposed to a series of situations tailored to their realities as well as authentic materials.

Course Objectives

  • To communicate key personal information and receive information from native speakers.
  • To understand cultural nuances in language and actions among Spanish-speakers of frequent contact (Dominican Republic, Cuba, Colombia, Venezuela).
  • To produce and respond to frequent situations among native speakers in vulnerable situations.
  • To produce written texts on work duties, services around T&T and jobs
  • To become culturally sensitised to migrant realities
  • To understand short, slowly articulated speech about medical situations, needs and treatments.
