Spyware

Definition

Spyware is a type of software that is installed on the computer without the user being aware of it. It usually comes hidden along with other programs that are installed consciously, which makes it very difficult to detect.

Uses for hackers

  • Keylogging (logging everything you type, such as usernames, passwords, banking information, etc.)
  • Record audio and video, or take screenshots
  • Control the device remotely
  • Capture content from email, messaging and social networking applications
  • Record and capture your browsing history

What can it be useful for?

Spyware has some valid uses. For example, your company might have a security policy that allows you to use software to monitor employee use of computers and mobile devices. Parental controls that limit device use and block adult content are also a form of spyware.

Security threats

Malware: malicious software. Virus, worms and trojans Phishing: simulates other companies taking your important information Ransomware: it wants a rescue or your computer will not function Denial of Service Attacks: They attack companies, like WhatsApp. They infect thousands of computers to make an app or web disconnect.

Social Engineering Attacks: Manipulate people to gain data Attacks on identity: A person supplants your identity. It could be to obtain important information Man in the middle: A person who reads your private conversations without you being aware of it. Cyberbullying: Bullying online by social networks. It is the most common way to bully someone.

Sexting: it happens when you send videos or photos with sexual or explicit content. Grooming: an adult tries to get the confidence of a teenager, usually a girl, to receive information or another type of relationship. Access to inappropriate content: Sexual, explicit or gore videos.

Balance between digital and real life

It is a problem that some teenagers are different in Internet and then in real life behave in another way.

Some teenagers and grown-ups spend a lot of time with their smartphones and computers.

Ergonomics

Some streamers, tiktokers, youtuber, etc. can influence people and make them see the world in another way.

Using computers, for example, can affect your back and posture.

Video

In my opinion, this video is handy and informative because it shows the dangers of things that we think that are harmless, like free Wi-Fi. It helped me to think twice before doing something risky with my smartphone in a public space.

Thank you!
