Reading

Reading in English has become more than a habit to me. It has become a refugee, something that is not only all over my social media but also in my books, and even though there are books in Portuguese, I fancy reading in English more. Perhaps it is because I am looking for an escape from my life. It makes me feel safe and like nothing else matters, as I only need my books to be content. Sometimes, I even consider not caring as much about my grades, moving out of Portugal, living in a small apartment, working at a simple job, and just appreciating the simplicity of my books and a quiet environment. But then I come back to reality and realize that that's probably never going to happen or that it would be rather unpractical. Therefore, I can only hope that in the future, I'll still have time to cherish and value my beloved books, and most of all, I wish I never lose my love for reading and my eagerness to read as many books as possible.

My dossier

Listening

English is everywhere in my life, and even if I would love to travel to another country and hear other people speaking in English and converse with them, I'm limited to only listening to music and people on social media, and when I talk in my English course. However, this doesn't frustrate me. It makes me work hard so that I can travel to another country, and it makes me value what I already have. Having the ability to hear and learn more in English is a privilege because I can comprehend people from another part of the world, and even better, I can feel English songs differently and dive into a much more emotional and profound experience, and I love it!

My dossier

Writing

Writing has a special place in my heart! Perhaps I enjoy it so much due to my love for reading, or maybe it's hence my lack of ability to deal with my feelings and thoughts. Honestly, it's most likely to be both of them simultaneously. Whether I'm feeling sad, jolly, or nostalgic, I always find myself writing. Even if I don't have a pen, I catch myself describing peoples' feelings, expressions, and movements. Even with poems, I love their melodic sound and how they express emotions. I have many poems that I dwell on, but I can't always put them on paper cause it makes them too real, so they live rent-free in my mind. On the whole, writing in English has become one of my favorite things to do in my free time or when I feel like I can't express myself well enough to someone else, and that's why I'll always hold it in esteem.

My dossier

Speaking

Speaking is not my best, especially in front of another person. It makes me anxious, and all the ideas I have in my head can't align themselves. Unlike speaking, writing gives me the time to dwell on my thoughts. Even though I get nervous, I am keen to boost my speaking abilities and calm my anxiety, and I'm sure next time will be better. Nevertheless, I've noticed that my speaking skills have slowly improved, mainly because of my English course, where I can practice speaking English freely about a panoply of topics.

My dossier-exercise

It does not take a genius to understand that parks and green spaces have a vital impact on urban life. These areas are crucial for supporting wildlife, increasing beauty, and promoting health and well-being. City parks are home to many different animals, helping to keep the balance of nature in busy cities. A panoply of animals live here therefore visitors can appreciate their essence. The beauty of parks and green spaces is undeniable. They offer a visual retreat from the boredom of urban buildings, with exquisite landscapes and colorful flowers. This natural beauty improves the aesthetic of the cities, making them more attractive. Furthermore, green spaces have a significant role in the health and well-being of the urban community. They provide spaces for exercise, relaxation, and social interaction, reducing stress and promoting physical activity. Being in nature can make people feel better mentally, and parks offer a quiet place away from busy city life, which helps with this. In conclusion, parks and green spaces are essential in cities, enriching urban environments with wildlife, beauty, and health benefits.

My dossier-exercise

I assume you must have dwelled on the possibility of an alien invasion. But what would happen if humans and aliens met? Would it be a disaster or the greatest accomplishment humanity has ever made? From one perspective, people fear a future encounter with aliens because they believe that it would be chaos and mutual destruction. After all, there would be no way of communicating with each other. On the other hand, some people approach this scenario differently, assuring it would be an incredible opportunity to improve our society, making it more intelligent, secure, and efficient. According to my way of thinking, I honestly believe both sides would cope with the situation by attacking and trying to show their dominance. However, I have faith that, in the long run, we would find a way to coexist and create a better and more improved world, being more sustainable and harmonious, letting go of wars and violence to live in a happier and more peaceful world.

SOME OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS I'VE READ (in english)

Solitaire by Alice Oseman

“We’re so used to disaster that we accept it. We think we deserve it.”

“I actually think that a lot of people are very beautiful, and maybe even more beautiful when they are not aware of it themselves.”

“But books–they’re different. When you watch a film, you’re sort of an outsider looking in. With a book–you’re right there. You are inside. You are the main character.”
