Definitions
content words
They are words that contribute to the overall message of a sentence or phrase. Content words provide the substance of a sentence and make it meaningful. They are typically nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs.Examples Nouns: cat, tree, house, car, etc. Verbs: eat, sleep, talk, etc. Adjectives: big, small, red, happy, etc. Adverbs: quickly, slowly, carefully, etc.
Function words
They are words that serve a grammatical function in a sentence. Function words provide the structure and framework for a sentence, making it grammatically correct and coherent. Examples Prepositions: in, on, at. Articles: the, a, an. Conjunctions: and, but, or. Auxiliary verbs: be, do, have, will. Pronouns: I, you, he, she, it, we, they.
Falling intonation
Falling intonation is a type of vocal pitch that gradually decreases in sentences when speaking. For example /He should not ‘eat it/ How ‘are you?
Raising intonation
Raising intonation is a type of vocal pitch that gradually increases in sentences when speaking. For example Do you like pizza? /Pass the sugar please/
