As marchas populares
"As marchas populares" take place in Lisbon and date back to 1932, when the first competitive marches were organized, under the guidance of José Leitão de Barros.
Festival de Colombo
The "Festival de Colombo", held between September 13th and 15th, celebrates the travels of Cristóvão Colombo and his passage through Madeira. Tourists can experience this festival most intensely on the island of Porto Santo, where there is an abundance of musicals, plays, parades, exhibitions and street entertainment.
São João
The "Festa de São João", held in Porto, is a large popular festival that takes place from the 23rd to the 24th of June.
Queima das fitas
"Queima das Fitas", takes place in Coimbra, this festival began in the 1950s, which consisted of burning cotton ribbons that were used to tie the folders where they kept the notes and the ribbons had the colors of the college and were burned to symbolize the liberation from the sebenta that tormented the students so much. The "Queima" takes place in Largo da Sé Nova.
A Páscoa
"Páscoa" takes place all over the country, as it is a country with a strong Catholic tradition. "Páscoa" is a movable festival, which means that its date is not fixed in relation to the civil calendar. In Christianity, "Páscoa" or "Domingo da Ressureição" is a religious festival and holiday that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus, which occurred on the third day after his crucifixion.
Festa das Flores
The "Festa das Flores" takes place on Madeira Island, this festival is held in honor of spring and flowers and takes place between April 27th and May 21st.
Festa dos Tabuleiros
The "Festa dos Tabuleiros" takes place in Tomar from the 1st to the 10th of July. The "Festa dos Tabuleiros" or "Festa do Espírito Santo" is the most important celebration in the city of Tomar.Unique in the world, the "Festa dos Tabuleiros" takes place every four years.
Feira das Cantarinhas
The "Feira das Cantarinhas", held in Bragança and has medieval origins, takes place from the 5th of May until the 7th of May. The main reason for this fair to be held is to sell clay cannonballs.
Nossa Senhora D' Agonia
The Pilgrimage in honor of "Nossa Senhora da Agonia" takes place annually in the city of Viana do Castelo, since 1772 and 1783, taking place from the 14th to the 22nd of August
Festival Raízes do Atlântico
The "Festival Raízes do Atlântico" is one of the oldest festivals in Europe and the one with the longest history of Portuguese culture. It takes place between the 23rd and 25th of June. Throughout the day, good music reigns, combining local rhythms and world music. It's a wonder for everyone and there are options for the most varied tastes. This event is organized annually by the Regional Directorate of Culture.
O Magusto
Every year, on November 11th, it is the day to celebrate "São Martinho". The day of "São Martinho/Magusto" is a centuries-old tradition in Portugal, a celebration closely linked to chestnuts and wine. It's a day of traditions, celebrations and delight in the characteristic flavors of autumn.
Festival da Coca
On Corpus Christi Day (June 15), the Minho village of Monção once again fulfills tradition and serves as the stage for the fight between São Jorge and Coca, held as always at the Souto Amphitheater. Wednesday is a night of fado in Largo de Camões, while on Thursday (national and municipal holiday) the famous fight between Saint George and the dragon is preceded by rallies, fanfares and religious ceremonies, with emphasis on the solemn procession.
