Most slaves handled live stock. In one ranch they could take on 50 horses, 123 cattle, 49 mules, and 49 dairy cows that they milk. Compared to the farm they take on much more.  On left is the percentages of work done in a ranch.

Farming required a lot of land. The size of the crop as a country for a whole was 607 bails which did not require a large amount of slaves. In some ranchers they would harvest corn. At the top of the pyramid is what was at utmost importance to the least of importance.
