THE OLYMPIC GAMES
Ancient games
The first olympic games were celebrated in 776 B.C in Olympia, Greece. They used to honour the Greek god Zeus.
Zeus, sky and thunder god. Rules as a king of gods.
Only one sport
During the first olympiads, the only sport that was represented was running. They run 600 greek feet (200metres aprox.) Then, they started to include other sports such us jumping, combate sports or throwing.

Only freeborn Greek men could participate .Initially a one-day event, later expanded to five. Victors were awarded olive wreath crowns. The main events were running, wrestling, and chariot races .A sacred truce was announced during the games. The Olympics were banned by Theodosius in 393 AD.
modern games
in 1896 took places the first international Olympic Games in Athens. Pierre de Coubertain (IOC) was the organizer and also the creator of the Olympic flag as we know it nowadays. 14 nations (countries) participated in the games. All the participants were boys.
the flag
Created by Pierre de Coubertain in 1913 who found a design of five interliocked rings in an ancient altar in Delphi, Greece. At the beginning, the rings used to represent the color of the flag countries that took part in the games. Nowadays, they are linked to the five inhabited continents; the Americas, Africa, Europe, Oceania and Asia.
BLACK represents Africa and their skin color
RED represents the Native Amenrican's Heritage
BLUE represents Oceania because of its seas and oceans.
YELLOW represents Asia as its the color of the rising sun.
GREEN represents Europe and its forests.
