Even though discrimination they had African Americans had to make ways to better themselves. That is why they started making their own institutions. They made churches to help anyway in their community and it also acted as an opportunity for education for them. Churches were foundations that supported their rise in equality.
The occupation of Slave owners of enslaved African Americans
African Americans date back to Spanish settlement where there was not as much slavery sue to only them having domestic work. The community was also well racially diverse. In Bexar County they were call “Spanish” due to the military service they did.

African Americans experiences in Bexar County were just as hard as any African American life in the United States. They were treated the same with white looking down on them. It changed when they built and did things that helped them climb the ranks in recognition. They had to teach themselves ways to make the community bigger and better for them to live normal lives.
