Massachusetts Compulsory Education Law
- In 1852 Massachusetts passed a compulsory education law. They required that children go to school, or else they would be fined or have their children taken away and put into an apprenticeship. This event is important to include on this timeline because it highlights the influence of when our states initially started requiring that school was necessary for children.
