Solutions to the sea level rise include implementing new seawalls and breakwaters to protect existing infrastructure. Other ideas include the construction of watertight hatches, underground valves, and raising the foundation of newer buildings for the event of future flooding.

The rising sea level in Miami poses major health hazards to the environment and its residents. almost 400 hazardous waste sites have been subjected to flooding. This can leak into the water ways and potentially make drinking water hazardous to consume. The rising sewage from under the city can also pose risks and kill wildlife that come in contact with it.

The impact of climate change on the Miami area has made the entire city prone to flooding. This rising sea level threatens property and infrastructure that could put extreme financial burden on the local government and citizens that rely on the cities infrastructure.

Across the world, Venice is struggling with rising sea levels. The city is built on extremely low-lying islands with wooden piles for building support, as sea level rises, the city sinks at a rate of 1 millimeter a year. Since 2003, Venic has sought to prevent further flooding by installing a series of 78 gates across the city.
