COGNITIVE THEORY

Jean Piaget, who studied on this theory

WHAT IS THE COGNITIVE THEORY? Cognitive theory states that we do something wrong or right because we believe it to be right. It's the morals we've developed from an early age that makes us make these choices.

HOW DOES IT APPLY TO CRIME? It applies to crime because the morality we developed earlier tells us not to commit crimes, but something this morality is not enough developed. Indeed, criminals perceive the world around them differently because they have a defective moral compass. For example, a child who sees his parents using aggression as a form of discipline is more likely to see aggression as a way of resolving conflict.
