MY CLASS DIARY

WELCOME TO LUCÍA'S AMAZING CLASS DIARY. IMMERSE INTO THEIR DAY TO DAY AND ENJOY READING IT

September, 13th, 2023WHAT HAS BEEN DONE? Maribel, who is one of the teachers of this subject, has introduced the subject and has proposed a daily work dynamic to create a routine and be constant in the content learned. In addition, this proposal will develop many skills in us. This proposal is called class diary. Afterwards, she introduced herself and told us about her career, her personal life, like her family, sports, music, etc. WHAT HAVE I LEARNED? I have learned different times when we must remain silent, for example when you are at the peak of anger or when you don’t know all the facts. WHAT HAVE I THINK? Personally, today's class gave me a very good impression and good vibes. I think I am going to really like these English methodology classes.

September, 14th, 2023 WHAT HAS BEEN DONE? We have been looking at the Inef page, for teachers and students about the knowledge they should teach and learn and the different levels of the English language, multilingualism, syllabuses, etc. WHAT HAVE I LEARNED? I have learned what the Inef page is for and how to manage it. I have also expanded my knowledge with new concepts. WHAT HAVE I THINK? I have realized that these classes are going to be of great help to me or to obtain resources for my future as a teacher.

September, 18th, 2023 WHAT HAS BEEN DONE? Presentation of the other teacher of this subject and presentation of each student through a personality game. He has given us a poem that on the right side has a sad meaning and on the other hand it is the opposite, to make us see that the good side can be drawn from everything. We have talked about what we think about the subject of English throughout our academic career, since we were little. He has taught us a tool to practice English through songs, it is called lyricstraining. He has also offered us a website to practice listening, called elllo. This is a tongue twister to teach the “t” sound: "Betty bought a bit of butter but the bit of butter Betty bought was butter, so Betty bought a better bit of butter to make the bitter butter better". WHAT HAVE I LEARNED? I have learned many websites and resources to teach my future students and to practice different English skills myself. WHAT HAVE I THINK? I loved this teacher, he gave me very good vibes and I share his way of thinking about teaching.

September, 19th, 2023 WHAT HAS BEEN DONE? It has taught us to pronounce diphthongs, tripthongs and consonants. Also how to teach it to children. Bloom's taxonomy explained by him and seen by video. He told us about Gardner's multiple intelligences and we took a quiz to see which intelligences we stand out the most. Learning and teaching foreign languages is an exercise for reading comprehension. WHAT HAVE I LEARNED? Keys to boost motivation, exercises for reading comprehension and quiz to know the intelligences in which we stand out. WHAT HAVE I THINK? I believe that it is important to know the multiple intelligences and promote the development of each of them in children to enhance the intelligence in which they stand out the most and teach them that not everyone is good at the same things.

September, 20th, 2023 WHAT HAS BEEN DONE? We have seen the difference between multilingualism (different languages coexist in the same country) and multilingualism, where the languages are separate, in a different country. We have talked about the concept of syllabuses (general programming). WHAT HAVE I LEARNED? I have learned to focus my future classes in such a way that they learn, but the children have the feeling that they are just playing and not teaching a class. Also, the common framework tells us what the general competencies are and what the specific competencies are. The communicative language skills are linguistic, sociolinguistic and pragmatic. WHAT HAVE I THINK? At first the class was a bit dense for me, because we were looking at a lot of theory and I was already tired, but then, when we shared some aspects seen in class, I found it interesting.

September, 21st, 2023 WHAT HAS BEEN DONE? We have continued with the common European framework and at the end of the class he showed us examples of early childhood and primary education portfolios and also an e-PEL, which is the European Online Portfolio of Languages and he asked us to do it as homework. WHAT HAVE I LEARNED? I have learned how to make a digital portfolio and what the portfolios are like that we should make as future teachers in our classes. WHAT HAVE I THINK? This class has helped me realize how important it is to be a good early childhood teacher and offer everything I can and more to my students so that they can acquire their own knowledge and tools for their daily lives. Maribel has told us about real cases in schools where she has been teaching before teaching at the university and they were quite exciting and shocking cases. Being an early childhood education teacher is so beautiful, but also very complicated.

September, 25th, 2023 WHAT HAS BEEN DONE? We have done dictation with drawings and then, we have finished ‘learning and teaching foreign languages’. With this, we realize that this traditional method is not very useful or effective. WHAT HAVE I LEARNED? The meaning of ‘warm up’: calentamiento (introductorio). Different types of teaching methods for English classes. The communicative skill (in the different context). WHAT HAVE I THINK? I found it to be a very interesting and productive class, because the teacher showed us a traditional English language teaching method that we used in school to study English. We have been looking at the advantages and disadvantages that this method had and I have come to the conclusion that it is not a method that I would like to use in my future classes with young children.

September, 26th, 2023 WHAT HAS BEEN DONE? We have started with a warm up of creating sentences with words from the white board and then, we have learned the direct method for teaching English in the classrooms. In this method the mother tongue is not used, all doubts are explained in English with real examples. Next, we have learned the audio-linguistic method, based on repetition. Finally, we have practiced this method in pairs. WHAT HAVE I LEARNED? Juan Antonio showed us a website to get flashcards, which is called “British council flashcards”. Have learned two different methods of teaching little children. In this way, I can observe the advantages and disadvantages of each one and be able to choose the one that I would like to use in my classes as a teacher. WHAT HAVE I THINK? I like to learn this type of knowledge, because I see that it can be very useful in my work.

September, 27th, 2023 WHAT HAS BEEN DONE? We have been seeing what topic each group had to do the work and he has been explaining to us what this group work consisted of. We have also been remembering what ePAL was and what it was for. Finally, we have been seeing a PowerPoint about a children's portfolio. WHAT HAVE I LEARNED? Honestly, today I don't feel like I'm learning anything new, since we've been remembering previously seen concepts and organizing group work. WHAT HAVE I THINK? The truth is that I got a little bored in class today, it also influenced that I was very tired from the whole day already.

September, 28th, 2023 WHAT HAS BEEN DONE? The teacher has shown us some books with teaching ideas to do with the children. Afterwards, we continued with notions of the children's portfolio. To finish, we have done a kahoot to review what we learned. WHAT HAVE I LEARNED? I have learned typical English "chascarrillos" or games that in Spanish we say very similar. For example: "I spy with my little eye something beginning with the letter…". "Eeny meeny miney moe catch a Tiger by the toe, if he roars let him go, eeny meeny miney moe". WHAT HAVE I THINK? I found it very practical to learn those "chascarrillos" or typical games, because I think it is a very fun and easy way to help children learn.

October, 2nd, 2023 WHAT HAS BEEN DONE? We have played a warm-up game of memorizing phrases and dictating them to our partner. Afterwards, we have finished watching the audiolongual method and a video example. Next, the teacher has shown us other methods such as Communicative language teaching, suggestopedia, the silent way, the Clil method, the Task based teaching method, and the TPR (Total Physical Response) method. WHAT HAVE I LEARNED? In today's class I learned some methods of teaching other languages. Communicative language teaching is not a method, but rather an approach to how to work. With the Suggestopedia method you achieve, for example, self-confidence. The silent way is based mainly on the teacher's silence to help the student consolidate that knowledge. The most modern method is Clil, which consists of using English as a learning tool and not as a focus, for example studying in a bilingual school. Task based teaching is the closest thing to doing a project for a real purpose. Finally, the TPR (Total Physical Response) method consists of the physical response of the students to check that they understand what is explained, without the need to communicate it orally. WHAT HAVE I THINK? This class has been very useful to me, because I believe that learning different teaching methods will help me in the future to create my own teaching method, based on the aspects that seem most relevant to me of each method that I know.

October, 4th, 2023 WHAT HAS BEEN DONE? We have been looking at learning techniques for children to learn vocabulary or sentence structures in an easier way, with rhythms, rhymes or songs. Afterwards, we have been putting it into practice in groups. WHAT HAVE I LEARNED? Maribel has given us different examples on the digital board of what we have been learning today in class and we have learned songs and typical rhymes of the language to apply to the children. WHAT HAVE I THINK? I really like learning these types of teaching resources, since I think they are very good and useful to apply in the classroom with young children. Furthermore, it's more fun than learning theory!!

October, 5th, 2023 WHAT HAS BEEN DONE? I couldn't attend class today, but my classmates told me what they have been doing in class. First, they have thought of different tips to keep children's attention in class. Afterwards, they have been reading about our educational vision of teaching English to very young students and a summary of several key points. Finally, they have learned the use of ICT in the classroom.

October, 9th, 2023 WHAT HAS BEEN DONE? Today there were exhibitions. The methods Task based teaching, direct method and grammar translation have been presented. Afterwards, Juan Antonio explained the last remaining teaching methods: The oral approaching and situational language, Communicative language teaching, and Natural approach (Krashen). To finish, we did an individual question like an exam. WHAT HAVE I LEARNED? I have learned that the Communicative language teaching method is used to know how to use the language depending on the context. In the Natural approach (Krashen) method, learning should be carried out as much as possible in a language in a natural and spontaneous way; artificial learning should be avoided. The teaching of content must always be a little above what is possible, so that the student always has resources for everything. In addition, we have seen what the exam model that the teacher can set was like. WHAT HAVE I THINK? I find it a very interactive and creative way to present the different learning methods, since this makes it easier for us to put them into practice and really know how they are used.

October, 10th, 2023 WHAT HAS BEEN DONE? Today we have continued with the presentations of the different teaching methodologies. My group and I have exposed the Clil method. Later, the audiolingual method, suggestopedia and TPR method have also been presented. WHAT HAVE I LEARNED? It has become clearer to me what the methods explained today consist of, for example, suggestopedia is a specifically psychological, relaxation method, and TPR method consists of seeking the physical response of the students. WHAT HAVE I THINK? I really like that the teaching methods explained in class by the teacher are put into practice, since this way I understand better.

TOUCH TO SEE THE PRESENTATION

October, 11th, 2023 WHAT HAS BEEN DONE? We have been remembering what we could use Google Forms for. Afterwards, Maribel showed us an application to save different links or resources that we use in an orderly manner. He has also taught us other applications such as classdojo, vocal remover and isolation, or storybird. WHAT HAVE I LEARNED? The different applications that the teacher has taught us today have many uses for education. For example, classdojo is used to rate the student in a fun and motivating way, and it can also be seen by parents. Vocal remover and isolation is used to separate the voice from the music. And the storybird application, to create stories. WHAT HAVE I THINK? I think that when the teacher shows us a large number of Internet applications as examples to use in the future as teachers, they will actually be very useful and effective for our work. Plus, they are very fun!

October, 16th, 2023 WHAT HAS BEEN DONE? Today we have done a warm-up craft to start the class in a motivating way. Next, my classmates have been implementing activities interacting with the class, using some techniques or methods seen in class previously. WHAT HAVE I LEARNED? I have learned a way to internalize the weather every day in a fun way and different activities presented by my classmates. WHAT HAVE I THINK? I consider that my English teachers are teaching speaking and writing skills in a more fun and practical way, since I have realized that they are working on them indirectly every week. This means that I, personally, do not get so nervous every time I have to speak in English in front of more people or I am not so lazy to do long written activities. I also like the warm-up games that Juan Antonio plays, because we start the class calmly and in a cool way. I think this is a good method to work English in a more motivating way. I love it!

October, 17th, 2023 WHAT HAS BEEN DONE? As a warm-up game today we had a competition of catching words with a fly swatter to review vocabulary. My group has won! Afterwards, we made two crafts that would be used later to explain a reading and writing method called Jolly Phonics. We have also continued with the activities implemented by the students towards the rest of the class and today my group and I have done it. WHAT HAVE I LEARNED? I have learned the Jolly Phonics method, which is a purely honomatopellic method, through songs. In addition, I have learned teaching resources to support this method, such as using a paper snake to practice the "s" sound or making an x-ray simulation on cardboard to practice the "x" sound. WHAT HAVE I THINK? I love that Juan Antonio makes the classes so fun and practical. I consider that he knows perfectly how to work on the contents of the units and keep us motivated.

October, 18th, 2023 WHAT HAS BEEN DONE? Today we started the final group presentations with Maribel. The first group was about autumn and worked on the thinking-based activities methodology. It was very original! The second group has focused on creative activities. I also liked it, although I think they could have interacted more with the class. WHAT HAVE I LEARNED? I have learned many things from my classmates. For example, the idea of telling a story with a puppet to learn vocabulary and Maribel has also proposed including drawings in the narration of the story to give the children clues about the objective to be achieved. They have also taught us a very cool activity to guess hidden images that could be seen with the flashlight (backlighting). Our classmates from the second group have done a creative activity with a piece of paper that if you scratch it with a toothpick you can draw multicolored lines. WHAT HAVE I THINK? I have liked listening to my classmates, because I have learned teaching resources to apply on occasion as a teacher and new ways of seeing and doing some activities.

October, 19th, 2023 WHAT HAS BEEN DONE? In today's class, two groups have presented their activities with the rest of the class. In the first group, many activities have been done with chants and rhythms and I found them very useful for our classes with the children in the future and very realistic. The second group has been incredible, because they have recreated a real trip with their tickets and different countries in the world, showing the most characteristic aspects of each one through very fun games. WHAT HAVE I LEARNED? Today I have learned above all that there are many activities that we can do creatively with children and make them more fun and easier with the help of rhythms and chants. WHAT HAVE I THINK? I really like doing these recreations of activities for children with our class, because I learn more and more resources and ideas for my future creations with the children.

October, 23rd, 2023 WHAT HAS BEEN DONE? We have seen the Early Childhood Education curriculum and a document about Lomloe. Afterwards, the teacher has sent a series of group tasks to start doing in class. WHAT HAVE I LEARNED? I have been able to understand the Early Childhood Education Curriculum and Lomloe in a better way, thanks to the explanations and clarifications that the teacher has given about them. WHAT HAVE I THINK? It has been of great help to me that the professor shows us these documents in detail, since we have to use them many times throughout our career, both at the university and later in our work as teachers.

October, 24th, 2023 WHAT HAS BEEN DONE? Today we have seen the Early Childhood Education curriculum again, but this time focusing on learning situations. Next, we have created a learning situation as a group. WHAT HAVE I LEARNED? I consider that today's class has been a review for me, since we have not seen anything new, although I liked the approach that the teacher has given it; It has been easier for me to understand. WHAT HAVE I THINK? Carrying out the teacher's explanations in a practical way in class helps me a lot to better understand new concepts. So I like to do exercises to practice what I have learned.

October, 25th, 2023 WHAT HAS BEEN DONE? In today's class, my group and I have presented our activities from the work we have done: "All about me". Later, another group presented on “The world around us (exploring the world)”. WHAT HAVE I LEARNED? I have learned a lot from this work, especially carrying it out, because my group and I have become aware of the importance of knowing ourselves and also knowing others. WHAT HAVE I THINK? The truth is that the activities and proposals presented by the group of explorers have been very fun and entertaining, especially when all of us classmates feel like explorers looking for leaves and branches outside of class. And, of course, I have really enjoyed presenting our work, I have felt very comfortable and encouraged.

October, 26th, 2023 WHAT HAS BEEN DONE? Today the last group has exhibited, which showed their topic about numbers, colors and shape, with innovative and curious activities (such as emotions through colors). Then, as we have done with all previous groups, we have evaluated them. WHAT HAVE I LEARNED? Although today the class was also about exhibitions, I have learned that regardless of whether we like the topic we are going to teach the children more or less (personally I don't like this topic), the important thing is to make it attractive for them. , in such a way that they always like everything we propose to them. WHAT HAVE I THINK? From my point of view, my colleagues have known how to present their topic in an attractive and fun way, in such a way that, although I don't like this topic, it has ended up interesting me.

October, 30th, 2023 WHAT HAS BEEN DONE? Today was the last day of class. The teacher has shown us the tasks that we have to do to finish the subject and has explained to us the final project that we have to do; a group didactic sequence. WHAT HAVE I LEARNED? Juan Antonio has shown us examples of didactic sequences to give us an idea of how to do them and has given us guidelines and advice for doing them. In this way, we will have models to do our final work and they will be of great help to us. WHAT HAVE I THINK? Today was the last day of class and we all said goodbye. I really liked the way the teachers taught and all the resources they gave us. If I have to say something negative about this subject or the teachers, it would be the organization they have had regarding the assigned tasks, especially at the end. I think they should have informed us better about it so that we could organize ourselves in a better way. Other than that, I really think they are both very good teachers and they are great too. I have really enjoyed their classes.

I hope you like my class diary. SEE YOU SOON!
