Amends the Nonindigenous Aquatic Nuisance Prevention and Control Act enacted in 1990
PURPOSE
Ballast water control program:
to prevent the introduction and spread of aquatic nuisance species into the Great Lakes through ballast water.
To Prevent:
- Studies ballast water exchange
- Studies diversity and impact
- Control infestations of inland waters
- Control infestations of the Zebra Mussel
- Prevention of nonindigenous aquatic
Species beyond its historic range"
Aquatic nuisance species:
Nonindigenous species
"nonindigenous species that threatens the diversity or abundance of native species or the ecological stability of infested waters, or commercial, agricultural, aquacultural or recreational activities dependent on such waters.”
