why?

"Access to water, sanitation and hygiene is a human right." -- The United Nations Water plays an important role in maintaining the health of individuals, contributing to the process of poverty reduction and achieving gender equality, among other issues related to the well-being of people around the globe. Although access to clean drinking water and sanitation has increased dramatically, billions of people, mostly living in rural areas, still lack these basic services. The lack of access to clean water by the poor is one of the major causes of some diseases.

What can we do?

Civil society organizations can raise awareness by disseminating information on water resources to the population at the local level. Governments can be actively involved in local water resources management and optimize the allocation of funds to increase investment in research and development of technologies for water resources management.

Individuals can also get involved in the World Water Day and World Toilet Day campaigns that aim to provide information and inspiration to take action on hygiene issues.
