The play Baalm yaad was showing on October 13, 2023 the place venue , School of Dance , Bert Rose Studio Theate. The play was set on the floors of the dance studio infront of a live audience , where some audience members where seated in a semi - cirle on the stage , viewing the actors from a close proximtiy.

In the world of Baalm yaad , It was a normal domestic inner city yard, where a mother and son lived among other community members. It was a sacred community build on the grounds and foundations of a christian church. In this communtiy where they were makert people , nosey, possesive , envious neighbor , and strong passionate chorus leader/ church leader who surrouned Iacent ( a devouted , independent defensive mother. A well rounded character who her main objective was to provide a life for her son , whom she wished that the demons of her past wouldn't come to devour him as they did her , in this sacramental place. Iacents home was in the community with other memebers in a place where it seemed you could rely on each other. Where these people found the church as their foundation and redemption from situations that they were in .

The play opened with a modern afro beat song as the light cast from the laterns each character froze , each with a different expresion on there face as they froze , their bodies changed to different levels , some standing straight , some bent over slightly and as the music began they sarted moving trance like. each with a different objective behind their eyes walking to a different part of the rand Iacent moved lowering herself close to the ground and waving her arm round and round and she moved from upstage right to downstage left and as each other charactrer moved to a different spot , finally Iacent came to the centre of the stage and sat down . An alluring , powerful , solemn chorus began slowly the voices came from the back of the room and covered the room as they sang louder and slower slowly breaking out of a trance like walks and into the space where they sang , all of the women then approached Iacent and came to her some speaking a diffferent language , the men's voicing projecting from the back of the stage while the women’s voices surrounded Iacent as they strectched out their hands to her , each with a spiritual , aching expression and voice rubbing Iacent head and then Iacent rose and immediatley with a angry , grieved expression to her face , harshly climbed the steps of the studio. Then she released a harsh , terrible scream into the air ‘’ kevin’’ she screamed , a deep , lower voice approached her from the other end of the room and with the voice the body of her ex- lover Donavon, the father to her son . -

They spoke of Kevin and how Donavon wanted his son to come and learn his ways , but Iacent was hesitant to even allow the idea to roam they argued about it for a few secound till donvan decided to leave and then kevin decided to appear he saw his father and all the sudden his mother voice and presence dissapeared from him, he called out to him but Iacent jumped infront of him as if she was a inforcable shield that would block Kevin from his father , kevin was insurgent with his father to go against his mother , at some moment throughout the play he seemed almost fabricated in his father’s world , through his words he was just misplaced and absent , the play moved on to show Iacent going into the commuity , where some sold some .goods and she came upon her neighbors and a particular neighbour who when Iacent expressed that she is worried for Kevin and that she tried all she could do for him and this resentful , grasping woman freely expressed that Iacent choice brought her to the future she is now living and that Donovan should of been her man and Kevin her child after that she stormed off in rage leaving Iacent in awe of her words , throughout the play different character are displayed that cause discord in the neighbourhood there are scene where Kevin trouble a girl in the community pulling at her skirt and touching her in approprately and when the girl tells him off he suddenly threatens her to telll his father and he tells her that he could easily get her harmed if she doesn't give in , the mother of the girl then faces Iacent and tell her to keep kevin away from her daughter or she would have to do something drastic , this then changes Iacents atmosphere to an uneasy , and the alluring choir or voices came on singing as oif they were the voice feeling the pain of Iacent

The play then came to a more upsetting, trouble tone of Kevin causing mischief , the church of holy sing of hymns and negro spiritual qucikly change to one a modern dancall setting with costumes changes like dresses being removed to reveal tights and then changing church member to normal girls in the street dacning to dancehall. This modern addition showed the part of the community where Donovan resides with his 'dogs' and girls and his son Kevin , like shadows they went around causing mischief , stealing , threating the church leader to give them money and land but she resisted but just like barking dogs on chains they were pulled back by their master when Iacent caught them in the church. She frose in disbelief her breathes became shorter , her movement slow for a bit until the words she need to say started to fly from her mouth as she dragged Kevin and tried to reason with him but his father’s demons and his determination was stronger than her as the other dog with Kevin went to attack the church leader. Iacent jumped infornt but Kevin, reached for his weapon and the bullet met and pierced the flesh of his mother. She fell to the ground and off like a wounded pup , he ran off with the other one running behind him .

The Play used alot of themes of women and men in modern day and people having to find the church to be the only light at the end of the tunnel , in the play a body of spirtual singing and moving ments where used , there were no props to use physically but they were clearly seen when the actors used them and in every part oif the play where it was a different scene it was shown , it showed the story of an inner city family mother and son fighting to survive a mother battling demons of being impregnated early and with a man who choose chaos and discord as his clothing to wear daily . even though it was as every moment every breath she used was wasted at the pull of a trigger and it was the spilling of her blood that had turnt her son’s eyes away from his gangster lifetytle into reality .

The scene of Iacent's : death seperated to another where Donavon is now faced in a reflective state of thinking. He slowly lowers his guard as he raises his white flag of surrender and acceptance to his actions , he stay there in the mournful , grieve scene where he saw where what his actions led to Iacent's death and how even though Iacent begged him he still didn't leave Kevin alone , but he stayed there in that state while the chorus leader came back to find Iacent dead body on the floor lifeless and cold they wailed and screamed into the air. Their voices slowly filled the air as they sang and surrounded the air , they stood over the body singing and then it was as if thier bodies and self were no longer of Earth for they stood and their face without emotion they sang and walked to the back of the stage Donovan and his dogs joined them and started to sing as well. They walked to the back where two doors on opposite sides where , Iacent stood and she walked to the door where everyone else had. The chorus leader waited for her and held the door for her and she walked in not looking back , and then the light disbursed from the stage and then nothing but silence , and clapping from an audience.
